The reverse light not getting power when transmission placed in reverse. the bulb works in other light sockets but not in the reverse socket which leads me to believe the switch is bad. need help to find the switch and how to test it.
I have just, yesterday, fixed mine with exactly that problem. Its likely to be the reverse switch / sensor. Stand in front of your car. (Jack it up if you can its easier to see). Look under the car, crawl under the bonnet. You will see the bottom of the radiator fan and all its black plastic casing etc and probably a fat coolant pipe/hose too/ There is all that metal casing isn't there? Out of the casing you will see there is a wire coming from a pluggy switchy type thing. That wire is a 2-pin connector that clips off. You should see, sticking out of the casing (metal gearboxy looking thing) a sesnor-looking part. This part has a long switch (ought to be with plastic connector housing) and also looks like a large nut. Best described as like a 22mm nut with electrical connector stuck out from it. That is the reverse switch and it can be removed by using I thing a 22mm spanner. You 'can' use a socket of you have the long ones because a normal socket albeit fits over, didnt allow the wrench to attach.
When you take the switch out you will notice its a metal cylindrical shaft with screw thread on the closest part and like a smooth ball-end.
There's no way of knowing by sight of its broken but they're about 10 pounds average new. I got one from a scrap dealer for a pound
Anyway, as mentioned, remove the wire and bridge the two prongs - if reverse light come on its that.
HOWEVER, I somehow got a loud "CRACK" and flash as I think the engine was idling.
We do not have this model Ford in the United States so have no info on it.

Check the book and make sure you are using the proper bulbs on all sides. (3957 looks just like 3956 but wont work right)

Not sure what transmssion you have but basically it goes from fuse on P/O wire to either the MLP switch on automatic or just a backup lamp switch on manual and leaves the switch on BK/PK wire to the bulbs. Should be easy to trace with a 12v test light.
