I have a 2000 Lexus ES300. and am going to replace the standard headlights with an HID system. I need to know which wire is the positive and negitive in order to plug the kit in. Both sides have a white wire and the other wire is a colored/colored striped. I am assuming the white will be the ground wire, Am I correct?
If the vehicle was not designed for hids its best to make a relay system off the original head light wiring, like you would do for fog/spotlights this would draw power direct from the battery and not the original wiring as the original wiring may not be able to take the drain from the startup of the hids. there are kits for vehicles so no wire cutting is involved, just plugs into the original wiring. same with led kits. https://www.hidextra.com/lexus-es300-hid-kits/

you should be able to get in behind headlight and change the bulb. The headlights have caps on them or twist the caps off

The HID bulbs are very easy to change, and can be bought online for much less than from the dealer. Check sites like xenondepot and Ebay for Phillips D2R (for reflector headlamps) HID bulbs and you can replace them yourself.
SOURCE: 2005 Lexus RX330 HID ballast replacement,
I have a 2005 Lexus Rx330 with HID AFS headlight. My passenger side light went out. I thought the bulb burnt out, so I bought a new bulb. After replacing the new bulb, it happened exactly like my old bulb. It light up lightly and then total black out. What's wrong with it? I thought the ballast burnt. I called Lexus dealer and asked for the new ballast/transformer. Surprised me, they don't know what is it. They told me they only know the wiring harness and the socket, but not the ballast ??????? Could you tell me what do I need to replace?
Thanks,

Well, we seem to have a real dilema here. I just searched the service manual for your 2005 RX330 and I cannot find any reference to a ballast for the HID headlamp bulbs. According to the wiring diagram, they are wired to the Headlamp Control Relays in Junction Block #2. (Right-hand side of the engine compartment) These relays are "Solid State", so my guess is that the balast for the HID may be built in to them. These are controlled by the Body Control Module. I would recommend scanning the body control module for fault codes before doing anything else. The first step in the diagnostic chart for the headlamp system is to perform a diagnostic systems check. There is a symptom chart to follow if there are no codes present, but if there are codes in the system, you could be shooting yourself in the foot trying to follow the symptom chart without first correcting any fault codes. This is not your fathers headlamp system - it is equipped with tracking control and automatic headlamp leveling...VERY sophisticated. Also lots of stuff that can break...this is what I call JOB-SECURITY- - LOL!
Open the hood of the ES300 and prop it open.
Look at the headlight assembly from the top down. Depending on your model year, there may be a plastic panel covering the top of the headlight assembly. If this is present, remove it by lifting all of the plastic clips around the edges and lifting it off.

Locate the three bolts that hold the headlight assembly in place. Two of the bolts are in the left and right rear corners of the assembly, and the third is on the side bordering the outside edge of the car, screwed into the back of the fender panel. Remove all of these bolts with a small adjustable wrench. Though they appear to be designed to be removed with a screwdriver, the way they're arranged makes it almost impossible to remove them with one.
Slide the entire headlight assembly forward a few inches so that you can reach the back of it.
Unscrew the plastic bulb socket assembly. This is the large, round component located right in the middle of the back of the main assembly. Turn it about a quarter turn to the left and you can pull it away from the main assembly. If you're replacing both the bulb and the main assembly, see the next section on how to replace the bulb, then resume this process
