The drivers side door will not open from the inside. What happened? How do I fix?

Does it lock or unlock with the switch inside? When you try the keyless do you hear any noises from inside the door?

It sounds like you might have two door latches that are faulty.... But you can try disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes and reconnect to see if that solves it. Sometimes VW's need their memory reset, have seen weird problems happen and this fixes it a lot of the time.

I will admit that this is not a solution to your problem but may help until you get it fixed. Many people sometimes forget that the ignition key can unlock the doors from the outside manually. Worth a try rather than crawling in through the trunk.

My friend just had this problem and he reached in and pulled the inside door handle back as far as it would go, and then let it go, allowing it to 'snap' back. For some reason this fixed it. We have no idea why. By doing this on one door, both rear door locks freed up and the rear locks are now working. Before, both rear locks were stuck and you could not open the doors from the inside nor the outside. Not sure why it works, but maybe it will work for you!

That sounds like what happened to my neighbor.They came to the conclusion that someone tried to jam a screwdriver in the lock to open the door.As far as not openeing anymore,that happened to me and I had to replace the mechanism inside the door.I bought a used one for $5 and did it myself.A regular mechanic should be able to fix it however,you may end up needing to have 2 separate keys for your car if they replace the lock.1 for the ignition and other locks,and 1 for the drivers side lock.Call around a few places for a few estimates.Tell them the same as what you posted,they should be able to give a close estimate over the phone.Also,please read my tip about car keys.It is good free info.Good luck! You have a problem with the linkage that goes from the inside handle to the door mechanism. You need to take off the door lining and make an inspection. It could be a broken clip, spring, retainer or a little over centre mechanism that has seized up. Should be an easy fix once you can see whats happening with the door liner off.

Go to http://www.hmaservice.com/ and register (vehicle by VIN). Afterward, you'll have access to technical information (manuals, wiring diagrams, service bulletins, etc) about your vehicle.

He probably pulled a rod off inside your door when he was probing. Or it may have gotten bent. You will be able to see what happened if you take your panel off.
Apparently, this happens quite often, and a lot of police depts. won't help you any more for this reason.

The outside door handle linkage has come off, probably due to a broken clip inside the door. This needs to be replaced.

The power door lock solenoid on the driver door needs to be replaced.
