The car was driving fine the night before it quit working. I had noticed a slight hesitation while driving. I got home and parked the car in the garage for the night. The next morning I went out and started the vehicle to make a trip to the grocery store but the vehicle would not go into and gear either forward of reverse. Is the transmission at fault or could it be some other problem as this vehicle is of the AWD type.

it might be a blockage in your fuel lines, this will sometimes make your car go into failsafe, because it knows there is gas in the car but a limited amount reaches the carbarettor, this is also why it will sometimes stop while trying to "rapidly" accelarate ( from a red light )

Sounds like a linkage/cable to me. Disconnect the linkage at the transmission and move the shift actuator by hand to see if there is the same things happening. Don't try to do this with the engine running unless someone is holding the brake inside the car.

check the oil lever in the transmisson assuming it's automatic, if the fluid level is fine then with it in gear running and the brake on look to see if the drive shaft is turning, if it is then you have a prboblem with the drive shavft depending on engine size and wheather it's front or rear wheel drive. if it's not turning then you have a transmisson problem. If this is helpful please rate.

People can't tell you what is wrong with any vehicle issues
You must understand the technology and start a diagnostic
proceedure to find those problems
You have an ABS System issue
You retrieve whatever codes there may be & go from there
Obviously a repair shop or dealer can resolve it
