I have an aftermarket car alarm and all of a sudden there is no sound anymore when i use the remote to open or lock the car. Instead I hear the sound from the open door ajar going off when the alarm turns on. The lights still flash but it's like an silent alarm now. Could it be just the horn? How can i test the horn? There is only 1 wire and it looks like a ground connection where the horn is attached to the body.
Horns if not used to full intent can seize up, and stop working, if you remove the horn and give it a good spray of oil and rust cleaner it might bring it back to life. try not to move the adjuster screw on the horn as this can change the sound and then it will not work properly. or just replace with another horn, they fairly cheap to replace.

you can also solder the wire to the tach wire, this way it won't come off and cause a malfunction
SOURCE: 2006 Toyota Corolla. The driver's door won't work with remote.
the actuator might have been disconnected from the lock, its attached inside the door, with a metal rod that clips into the actuator, check it out, might be a easy fix, good luck and god bless, please rate me!

If your car has an alarm with a separate remote, it is a separate system and it is probably self-arming. When you lock the doors with the key central lock, the alarm gets armed by the RAV4 being OFF and the door locking action. When you unlock the doors with the key, the alarm is still armed because the key is not comunicating with the alarm just the cars factory keyless system.

I disconnected the alarm speaker and checked all the cable, removed negativ cable from battery for a few minutes and tried again. It was still not working.....weird thing....just now (2days later) it works again! I have no idea why and for how long this will work...
