SOURCE: Rear Axle Bearing Replacement

That absolutely sounds like an axle (wheel) bearing. Jack up that corner of the truck and grab the top and bottom of the wheel, and shake like crazy. If you have any play whatsoever, it's a sign of a bad bearing (although you could have a bad one and not have any play - it would only mean the bearing isn't worn badly enough to cause looseness in the wheel).

You should be able to remove the axles without opening the diff up. If the axles have c-clips or snap rings on the ends inside the diff, you can usually get the axles out by dismounting them from the hubs and getting them free of all attachment except the diff, and then use a large flat-tip screwdriver as a pry bar. Use it right where the axle body mates to the diff, and lever it while you pull/yank/shake/swear at the axle, and you'll manage to pop the axle out of the diff. Sometimes it takes some time and profanity, but so far it's worked for me everytime.

SOURCE: rear axle bearings

There are 4 bolts for each rear axle. They are located behind the rear brake drums. Remove e-brake cable from rear drum and take off brake line.(carefully). I recomend draining and changing your rear differential fluid too, because if the fluid by run out of axle housing. also you should replace the seals for the axles of if you are changing the bearings. When you are done don't forget to bleed your brakes, and hooking up e-brake cable. I hope this answers your question.

Rear axle swap on a 89 ford bronco 2 4x4 auto trans cant find a matching axle that will fit and allow me to convert the drums to brakes

You might want to research Ford 4x4 Clubs or Bronco Clubs and things like Off-roading publications. Ford use to have performance displays at some Dealerships. There are some specialty shops which can shorten rear axles.and narrow rear ends. One thing to remember is that both the front and rear differentials need matching gear ratios. So whatever you do, think of pairs.

I have a 1988 Bronco with a drivers side rear axle and bearing problems. How can I find the right sized axle and bearings?

There's a tag on the rear cover. The most popular one on a full sized bronco is an 8.8 ring gear with a 3:55 ratio. However, The 5 lug axles are the same for the F150 and Bronco (not Bronco II) from about 88-96. The gear ratio doesn't matter. The axle bearing is probably in abundant supply in just about any parts store. The axles are plentiful at just about any salvage yard. There really aren't any options to concern yourself with. It's kinda like going to Baskin Robbins 32 flavors of Ice Cream...and they're all vanilla. You can check car-part.com to locate one near you and research the item on your own. I hope I've helped. How do you remove the rotors on a 1995 ford bronco

The rotors on most vehicles are removed by (1) removing the wheel, (2) remove the silver colored cap in the center of the hub, (3) remove the cotter pin that goes through the axle nut and axle, (4) remove the axle nut, (5) remove the disc brake caliper (6) now pull on the rotor. It should slide off the axle. Reassemble in reverse order, being sure that the axle bearings are in place with proper amount of grease.
