Hi I have a 1997 ford thunder bird LX 4.6 V8 I had this problem last fall and I am having it again. The over drive light will start flashing and the car will start bucking and running rough. The Code is P1747 Manufacturer Control Transmission. The first time I replaced the pressure solenoid and wiring harness in transmission. It ran good way over 3,000 miles or more. Then this spring the overdrive light started flashing again. I took the computer out and sent it to a repair shop in Fla. They put in a new transistors and diodes for the problem code P1747. The repair made no difference. The car will not hardly go motor and trans. Call the repair shop that repaired the computer and they said the computer went into protect mode and mite be in wiring harness out side transmission. If it is and I fix it will it come out of protection mode. I need help I have been a mech. over 35 years

No, does the transmission still shift gears? Might be a power feed problem.

The front seal could be replaced, and not have a problem. If you have a shop other than a transmission shop do the repairs, make sure the torque converter hub is inspected to make certain its not scratched/scorn. If the trans shifts properly and the fluid is not burned or smells burned, this would be an easy repair. If the trans fluid smells burned, and hasn't been serviced regularly, the rebuild would be the way to go. Also, ask what the warranty for any and all repair are on your vehicle. Normal warranty is 1yr, 12.000 miles in the automotive business.

Do 95 thunder bird have side way motor

No. They do not have transverse mounted engines. These years of the T-Bird were still rear wheel drive. Most came with 302 v8.

97 ford thunder bird lx engine light on rough idle when put in to drive rpm drop below normal

Sounds like you have a vacuum leak. To test you will need a small bottle of propane. Usualy comes in a blue can and a nozzle to control the flow out of it. Start the car. Pop the hood. Locate your vacuum lines. Move the bottle around the lines, intake cleaner, intake manifold. Listen for the idle to smooth out. You will have located your vacuum leak.

The Heater Core is going out in my 1997 Ford T-Bird Lx 4.6L v8, is it a hard job to replace?

the dash has to be removed it is a big job, check the haynes manual for the procedure or the ford service manual.the cluster radio and hvac controls come out and the light switch and the steering column has to be dropped ect.some fords like the mustang can be done by wedging something into the right side of the dash and you can get in behind it and do it in 3 hours instead of 10 hours.
