Car ran fine in the morning ,but check engine light was on,checked gas cap,and all other caps to make sure they were tight.checked fuses under the hood and all were good, disconnected neg.battery cable to reset.but still came on after hooking back up.went to start the car ,all lights work, dash, dome you can hear the fuel going to the fuel pump but wont start.zero,nothing.rplaced sarter anr relay fuse, same thing when went to start.battery good
Are you positive the battery is good? Did you try to jump it ? Make sure all cables are clean and tight. When you say "won't crank over" do you mean the engine doesn't turn at all? If not, I don't know why you think the fuel pump would be the culprit. If it cranks and doesn't start, I don't know why you replaced the starter.
Disconnecting the battery doesn't reset the light. You need a scan tool for that unless you get lucky and fix the problem and go through enough cycles for it to go out on it's own.
Take it to Autozone or Advance or somewhere and have them read the codes. They do it for free for you. (They are hoping you will buy parts there) They can reset the light as well.

real comon starting problem for these is moisture in the cap and rotor and plug wires. replace cap, rotor, and wires. while you have the cap and rotor off check the two vent holles in the base of the distributer to see if the screens are plugged. be careful with the srews that hold the cap on the distibuters are plastic and will break.
SOURCE: Check engine light/gas cap will not stay tight.
Yes, the gas cap will cause the Check Engine Light to come on. Will set code P0441 if I remember correctly. It should be okay to drive it. If you would like to confirm the code, take the truck to an auto parts store like Autozone and have them hook up their scan tool and read the code. If its P0441 it will probably be something like EVAP or Evaporative system leak.
Its an easy enough fix while your there too, just pick up a new gas cap or you could pick up an OEM one from the dealership.

Take off the distributor cap. Check the star wheel that is splined to the distributor shaft that the pick-up coil uses. Make sure this wheel is not loose on the distributor shaft. It is right above the pick-up. If it is loose, replace the distributor. This is a common problem. If it needs one, all the part stores stock the distributor.

Fuel pump relay is on the firewall or fender. It is the blue box type. You will have to check it with an ohmmeter or get multi-tester.
