My 91 honda accord is tempermental with starting. sometimes i put the key in the ignition and turn and nothing happens, not even a click. and sometimes i turn and the dash lights up. and some of the time, i can start it right up. an engine fan has been coming on even when i haven't driven it and runs for hours. and sometimes it only runs for a few minutes. i have had two battery tests done. one says that it is low and bad at a 5.75 reading. one said it was good at a 12 reading. the alternator is good said both. the a/c worked when i bought it, but now it doesn't work.something must be draining the battery, but what? fuses-starter, a/c, cooling fan? fuse wires? or connection wires?

Sounds like possibly a shorted or sulfated battery to me. I would replace it, especially if it is four years old or mor. Also check all of your battery connections and cables to verify that they are clean and tight (BOTH ends of the cables).

Testimonial: "this solution came from a helpful person. however, i am not sure if it corrects the problem with my car. i will be replacing the battery today "

SOURCE: 1991 Honda Accord won't start

Could be the igniter inside the distributor (unless you have an external coil). Look on your distributor to see if there are 5 wires leading from it. If there are, you have an external coil that is likely bad... If you have only 4 wires coming from your distributor it is most likely the internal ignition inside the distributor ($50.+). AS SOON AS YOU GET IT STARTED CHANGE YOUR OIL. Your fuel pump has loaded your cylinders with fuel and it has probably leaked down into your oil pan making your oil thin and mixed with gas.

You might have to change the spark plugs or at least have them cleaned.

SOURCE: my 1997 honda accord wont start.....

Hi Matt

Follow the( + ) positive lead from the battery, to the starter, check the connections, if all OK, get someone to turn the ignition key to start, and give the starter a tap, on the selenoid, with a small hammer or a metal socket extension.

Good Luck !

Let me know the outcome !

Also a FixYa rating would be nice !

SOURCE: where is the starter relay on a 94 Honda Accord

Yes, it sounds like your solenoid is bad and staying engaged against the flywheel, you could do an amperage draw and a voltage drop test to find out for sure, but you will need an DVOM and a amp clamp. Or you could take it into an auto parts store and they will test it for free. Hope this helps.

I have a 95 honda accord dx. When i put the key in and turn it nothing happens. All my dash lights come on but nothing trys trys turning over or anything. I was told by a handful of mechanics and people at...

Only thing it could have been in the first place is the wire from the switch to the starter is disconnected from the starter. Even a new switch won't fix that. Just get under the car and plug the wire back onto the spade connector.

91 honda accord won't start sometimes-battery, a/c, starter?

Your tempermental starting problem could be the park neutral safety switch . They get worn inside an cause this type problem . Next time it won't start place gear selector into neutral an see if it starts then . The cooling running problem is probably the cooling fan timer module . From the diagram it's hard to say which side the A/C condenser fan is on. The A/C fan has blue with yellow stripe wire in the connector along with a black one . I would also suggest you have a qualified repair shop do a voltage drop test on the starting circuit .
How to voltage drop test starter motor circuit

Starter Voltage Drop These test's will find any starting circuit problem .

Car turns but won't stay running

Check fuel pump fuse and all other fuses, check brake switch, Also, a worn ignition switch will cause the car to start sometimes but not always. Try turning the switch to on position, then jiggle the key around in the switch while pushing in a bit...now start the car...did it start? If yes, replace switch and/or key cylinder....

Check the battery lead to the car body the black one ensure it is tight and has a good connection. ensure the battery leads are both tight and make sure neither are touching the bonnet.

'91 honda accord

Ok start from the beginning, you are going to need a factory wiring diagram to make sure you are connecting the wires to the ignition coil where I believe you need to start

S----Light

I have honda accord 91 for more than 6 yrs. If the S light comes on ,it means one of the sensors are not working. it has nothing to do with transmission. It could happen sometimes during rain , or cleaning as the computer controller is under driver seat.
Once the S light blinks or comes on . Stop the car and take ignition off and wait for a minutes and put ignition again , it will be gone and will change in the speed and gear shifting will be different.
Hope it will help
