1985 Audi 4000 S Quattro. Owned for 3 years, bought new radiator 3 years ago. Coolant temp sensor intermittently on, looked in reservoir, 1/2 full always, never went down. Finally looked in radiator, needed to add about 1.5 quarts, now light not flickering. Why isn't the coolant in the reservoir not topping off the level in the radiator?
You must drain air out of system
so when engine is warmed up, just unscrew slightly the thermo time switch which is the highest sensor and unit in cooling system besides the reservoir, until alittle air releases then when antifreeze starts coming out then retighten to specs. BE VERY CAREFUL !!!! LOOSEN VERY SLOWLY AND NOT COMPLETELY REMOVE FOR THIS CAN CAUSE BURNS. MIGHT WANT TO USE A RAG AROUND SENSOR. If this doesnt solve it then make sure you have the correct rad. cap. Also that the filling hose is not clogged as well as the little port on radiator.
If there was an air lock this would not allow the reservoir to bleed out into system.
it sounds like it wasn't fully bled when the new radiator was put it, it can be tricky sometimes to get all of the air out.
