had the same problem about two months ago, small transfer motor was burned out...mine was still under warranty so I don't know much more.

I have the same problem. I had an electronics issue, that was repaired by the Ford dealership locally, about a year ago. I presumed they would look at the rest of the 4 X 4 operation. We've just had a major snowstorm, and I needed the 4 X 4 feature to get over a mountain pass. It didn't engage.

I took it back to the dealer, and they have found the solenoids were leaking. I didn't drive it in 4 X 4 for the year since the repair.

    Hope this helps...

The four-wheel did not engage. I was stuck in a long downhill driveway trying to plow. Nasty clanking noise and spinning noise like it did not fully engage. I made six runs in two-wheel to get out without finishing the plowing. I am very disappointed in my 2007 F150 with only 45,000.

I have a 2006 F150 with 4 wheel drive and it works intermittent, some times it works, and some times it does not work, what do I look for? the truck has 33,000 miles.

I have a 1994 ford f150, my 4 wheel drive keeps trying to engage by itself even without me touching the automatic hub button....at time you can even hear it engaging and disengaging by itself, the low range light even comes on (dimly)...what could be the cause? the transfer case motor looks good and so does the wiring.

I have 2006 ford f150 XLT 4wd low engages but 4high wont engage

Hello! I would suspect the Four-Wheel Drive Switch is defective...If you have a multimeter and a wee bit of experience using it the switch can be tested before buying a replacement...If you do not have a meter and are uncomfortable performing a test just let me know...

Pop the switch out...It has a four pin connector...Wire colors are...pin 1=Black...pin 2=Dark Blue...
pin 3=Dark Blue...pin 4=Light Blue/Red...We are interested in pins 2 and 3...Set the meter to the X10 ohm scale...Disconnect connector...Read across pins 2 and 3...Record reading on each of the three positions...Send a comment with results...Guru...............saailer

Wont go into four wheel drive lights dont come on

mounted to the tranfer case you will see what looks like a window motor. Round with wires coming out. This is the actuator motor for the four wheel drive. A lot of times if they are not used the brushes will stick in the motor and if they do the four wheel drive will not engage. Sometime you can tap on the motor and it will work. You also will have a fuse for the four wheel drive in your fuse panel. Good luck, hope this helped

Front tires wont engage in four wheel drive

if the actuateor is vacumed, you might have have a hose that came off or it has a split in it somewhere, check that.or if you have posilock hubs one or both may be wore out or lacking grease, they are easy to remove, just a hex wrench and snapring pliers is all you need, remove and inspect for obvious sighns of wear.

check the electric solenoid on the fly which diverts the vacuum to the front wheel to engage the drive shaft.Usually two solenoids located on the radiator panel.Check for broken vacuum hoses or leak

1991 jeep 4wd fuse

Check transfer case wiring, possible loose wiring/open circuit. If your other lights in dashboard work such brake light, seat belt lights, engine light than it is not a fuse. raise all for tires from the ground and engage the four wheel drive remember to have in neutral and put in gear either 4L or 4H and see if the wheels in front move.

2000 jeep grand cherokee quad drive but onlythe rear wheels turn

usualy you will only have two tires spin at a time even in 4 lo or 4high. those tires are going to be diaginal from each other tipicly. now since your vehcle is equiped with quad drive it may employ a limited slip rear differential to help it along. however this only afects the rear axle. now you can test it by jacking your vehicle up and setting it on jack stands. one for each wheel onder the axle tube on a good solid (concreat or black top) flat surface. then have some one you know and trust to get in the car and put it into drive . now you can actualy see what wheels are spinning or not.now is were the limited slip comes in if you have one rear wheel spinning and the other is sitting still the limited slip will engage and start the other wheel spinning . now this may bang until the other wheel catches up (note that the faster the wheel is spinning the harder it is on your truck)now be very carfull stay away from the wheels tires and all other spinning parts it is a machine it can hurt you badly. but give it a try and it will answer your question. be safe hope this helps

Trnsfer case wont engage

This vehicle has a solenoid on the front differetial that switches between 2W and 4W drive. The mechanism also contains a swtich that tells the truck what position it is in. Your problem may be a faulty solenoid. It is relatively easy to replace.

Help... My four wheel drive High or Low will not engage on my 1995 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer edition. This is engaged "on the fly". The light comes on indicating they are engaged but they it is not.

Try at full stop in neutral switching to 4 wheel auto ,give it a few seconds and if you don,t here it engage try putting it into reverse and then back into neutral and then into drive. If still dosen,t work tranny switch is likely sticking . service or repair.
