My car just stopped moving in the middle of the street. Like the gas revvs and I can hear the engine but it wont move. So I put my flashers on and tried to turn it off and on again but that didn't work either. Finally I called AAA and the tow guy told me it was the transmission and that I may need fluid but he couldn't find where the fluid should go. I can't move it at all and if thats the problem I would love to be able to fix it..
VW transmissions are seal and only take a special type of transmission fluid. Need to buy the correct type of fluid from your local VW dealer.
As for this being your problem, might want to verify first by checking to see if you have any codes in the transmission control module or the engine control module.

hi if the electrical side is ok leaves two options mechanical or fuel so if you can let me know what happened leading up to the car not starting i will be able to point you in the right direction it seems funny you should mention the security system [this does control the fuel pump but what makes you think this may be the problem, yates210456

SOURCE: cannot find dipstick to check transmission fluid
There is no "dipstick for the VW Beetle transmission". This is a dealer check/repair item. The unit is typically sealed, but can have a leak if the seal on top of the transmission fails. About a $700 repair. This happened on my 1998 VW New Beetle.

Have someone run a computer scan first. Most likely you will find a defective tiptronic switch.
SOURCE: my 2002 vw passat esp light comes on when you turn the engine on
Hi Amanda
I have come up against this problem a few times before.
If the ABS. light is NOT on, and its the ESP light only that is
on...your problem may well be a faulty Yaw sensor. This unit is fitted
to the floor panel under the rear seat...in the centre. Another problem
(although not all that common) is a faulty ESP switch. You should have
an OBD code reading done to make sure. If a new YAW sensor must be
fitted, the car must be driven with a full steering lock in both
directions (left and right) at a speed over 20 Km per hour after
fitting. If this is not done the light will remain on, even though it
will now drive ok.
As for the price of this unit...Here in Ireland it costs around 140
euro. Hopefully its cheaper where you are. So better to have the codes
read first.
I hope this is of some help to you.
Good luck with it
John
