03 saturn vue cvt vti transmission making noise and will not move forward, but goes in reverse

The truck makes a rattling noise when idling in park and when in drive and will not move forward at all, but when in reverse the noise stops and the truck drives in reverse just fine. what needs to be fixed? i read that you can replace the vti with a f23 aisin transmission along with computer, cooling lines, mounts, harness, and one of the axles. is this true?

If it is a 2.2 Auto it has a VT25E Trans,A really bad experiment from G.M.There is no dipstick.The only way to check it per service is to remove the center part of the main drain plug while running in park,if fluid drains or trickles out they say it's full.You probally have other Issues inside the trans.Check your mileage they have a special coverage period for this Trans through Saturn Dealer!! They May cover it or do a partial coverage for you.Hope this helps

well if it is a v6.. the stick is on your right(as you stand in front) and way down. It has a yellow handle, but hard to see.

if you have v4 probably doesn't have one they are sealed.

Is this the 4 cylinder or the 6 cylinder model? The 4 cylinder has a notoriously troublesome Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). These mischievous little skamps like to cause mischief at just the wrong times, such as when you are on your way to work on Monday morning, or when you are in the path of a train.

Since you have no engagement into forward or reverse the drive belt has likely failed you. Replace the case half and filter, and all of your dreams will be realized.... probably..

2004 saturn vue with 4 cyl engine. 147,000 miles... Now it is a quart low of oil and the motor is rattling like a diesel engine. I put oil in it and it isnt quieting down. What is up?

I am looking to buy a 03 saturn vue from a local dealership and I have heard about all the problems with the VTI transmission. I would like to know how I could tell if it has a VTI transmission or not....

I have had 4 saturns. every unhappy saturn owner i ever met, and that was lots of them, always had automatic transmissions. every happy saturn owner i knew, including me, always had manual transmissions. given that there are no more dealers, and no more experienced saturn mechanics; if you can, do yourself a favor and get a manual. I passed off my last saturn to a girlfriend and let me tell you when you take one to a GM dealer they look at it as though it were a spaceship.

My 2002 Saturn Vue stuck in a gear

IF IT STUCK IN PARK.CHECK BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH FUSE AND THE BRAKE TRANSMISSION SHIFT INTERLOCK SOLENOID FUSE.AND PARK NEUTRAL SAFETY BACK UP SWITCH FUSE.IF ANY OF THESE 3.IF FUSE IS BLOWN OR ANY IS FAULTY.YOU WONT BE ABLE TO MOVE CAR OUT OF GEAR.ANOTHER THING MAKE SURE YOUR BATTERY HAS 12.5 VOLTS.

2nd, 4th, and reverse went out in my saturn, now stuck in 3rd, burning plastic smell?!?!?!

Your Vue could have several engine/trans configs; the GM 4-cylinder with 4 speed trans or VTi variable trans; all 2004-2007 V6 Vues' used a Honda drivetrain with very little issues. There were countless problems the the VTi transmission- my guess would be that's what you have and there were several recalls reguarding those issues; I would check with a dealer quickly...

How do I repair a problem with the code p0742?

Hey marcarhernan

This code is set when there is a variance in speed from the transmission input and output shafts. It can be a simple sensor issue or a more complex internal problem. There are several recalls for VUE transmissions but I do not think yours falls under this problem. Yours sounds more like an internal belt issue which Saturn has a technical bulletin for as shown below. This usually requires replacement of the case cover and filter and sometimes the belt depending on the damage. This is the bulletin that has to do with your code;

Condition
Some customers may comment on the vehicle not moving in the "D" (Drive) or "R" (Reverse) gear selection positions. In many cases, the transaxle will also produce an audible grind or whine noise when attempting to operate in drive or reverse. The Service Engine Soon (SES) telltale may be illuminated with DTCs P0741, P0742, P0841, P1756, P1758, or P1882 set.
Cause
This condition may occur when the VT25E transaxle belt has malfunctioned.
