Car is stalling and not accelerating properly

I was accelerating and noticed that is was struggling a bit. didnt think much into it. turned off the car, came back later, turned car on and it was stalling and rattling pretty bad. Turned the car off. let it sit for a bit, turned it back on and began rattling and stalling as i reversed. I decided to drive the car home and it continued to stall untili i got close to home and the car went back to normal. i took it into a mechanic and he could not figure it out. we changed the fuel filter and now the check engine light is on. Need some advice as to what i should do.

Most likely it was a blocked fuel filter.
get it plugged into a diagnostic to give you a code.
or once is cleared by the computer it might not come back at all

SOURCE: 2000 Toyota Sienna Stalls while driving

yes i would say to check the parts yourself and save some money the fuel filter should be located at the rear firewall of the engine there is a hose going into it and one coming out on the new one there is generally an arrow to show fuel direction spark plugs you will find easy enough ignition coil is on the side of the body it is a round thing with usually four wires going into it and a heavy wire coming out from the top check it after the car has been run for a while if it gets hot that could well be your problem also there is a resistor under neath it same with that the vacuum hoses are small (thin) rubber hoses check to see if they are cracked on the ends if they are then replace them the air sensor is probably on the end of the air intake the large metal/plastic scoop hope this helps regards Jim

SOURCE: Car stalls when accelerating

I would replace that tank (asap), so there can be a cap back on it.
With the cap off, the fuel system can't build up any pressure to hold the gas in the lines.

This is what you need to do, change the plug wires, because if there is a bad wire you would definitely experiences sputter or a stutter, so do the plug wires and at the same time do the spark plugs, this should take care of your problem. if not let me know and i will give you the next step

Testimonial: "So far the car is working fine after I replaced the spark plugs and wires! Thanks so much!"

SOURCE: My 1995 Previa check engine light goes on and off

My Previa was doing the exact same thing and it turned out to be a LOT of carbon deposits in the connecting passage between the throttle body and EGR valve. It just needed cleaning. That little passageway tends to get clogged on Previas a lot.

What causes car to stall when u give gas real fast but runs fine when u idle it up slow and hold it at 2000rpms and then takes awhile to start sometimes??

when you accelerate real fast you are getting the CPU to allow large amounts of fuel into the chambers to be burnt. Un fortunately if everything else is not prepared for this surge of fuel it puts the fire out as combustion requires a ratio of 14.1 to combust properly. When you accelerate slowly the faulty sensors struggle to keep the ratio right. So run the fault codes and check which sensors are failing .

Stalls in reverse

You might want to check for a busted fuel pressure regulator diaphragm. With the engine running, pull the vacuum line off the regulator. If gas comes out of the regulator, replace it. For the acceleration issue, check the signal on the map sensor. It should change drastically when you open the throttle.

The engine has a tendency to run rough and will not accelerate smoothly. Feathering the gas pedal helps alleviate the problem a bit. When the A/C is running the problem is more noticeable.

Sounds like an idle air control valve (IAC) issue. It most likely needs a clean along with the throttle body interior. When you start up does the car struggle and almost stall when you engage the power steering or put the car into 'drive'.. If so then it is your IAC.

1991 chevy caprice 305 v8 i have a problem jus recently happend today after i got gas at a bp i noticed about ten miles down the road when i pulled out at a red light my car sputtered and struggled to get...

Looks like you have some water in gas. Check to see if you have a drain on your gas tank bottom. If so, since water settles to bottom, drain some gas out and hopefully you will be getting most of the water out. Otherwise you will simply have to "run it out" or have the station that sold you the gas take care of it.

Runs fine then it just stalls. Wait awhile and it runs fine then stalls again

Sounds like a crank sensor. That would be my starting point

Hesitates on acceleration

Does the car always hesitate during acceleration? If it ALWAYS struggles when it starts or ALWAYS hesitates on acceleration then I would say the issue is fuel delivery. If the problems are more intermittent and come-and-go then it could be an electrical issue.

I would start by changing the fuel filter. Changing plugs, wires, cap, and rotor are all good things to do as your budget will allow. I doubt you will have to change your injectors.

If you end up replacing any rubber fuel line, be sure to use the high-pressure stuff made for use on fuel injected cars.

I hope this helps! -Nick

Code P400

Code P400 is an EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) valve malfunction.

These cars are known for the EGR ports getting clogged.

The valves themselves rarely fail.
