I have 01 Signature series town car that AC is not blowing cold. Mechanic can get compressor to run and work when puts power to it. The under hood AC sensors also check out. Blend door operates in that when set to floor blows floor defrost=defrost, etc. But, something is keeping compressor from kicking in and when I run self test on control unit, I get code 1249 blend door actuator short. I am little confused since the blend door is responding to changes requested for air flow. Anyone have experience or ideas? It is hard to get to part so need to be confident before take dash apart to get to it.

Get freon.. I had to do this, just make sure to use the right tip, or you will get frost bite.

Your blend air door is vacuum controlled. There is a control servo assembly and there is a temperature sensor for the automatic climate control.
The sensors fail a lot. you may have to replace the sensor and recalibrate your system. To replace the sensor assembly, you must remove the dash pad. Then disconnect the cable control, the amient air hose, the vacuum hoses and the 2 screws that hold the sensor.
Otherwise you could have a bad servo assembly or a broken blend-air door. If you want to replace the blend air door, you must remoe the HVAC housing from under the dash to replace it.
