991 Nissan Pathfinder XE-V6, @160,000 miles, Automatic Transition, 4x4. Replaced left side exhaust manifold gasket, new cap & roter @2500 miles ago, new Platinum plugs @10,000 ago Truck starts fine when cold, runs good, (for a pathfinder) ok mileage, After warming up to normal temp if I turn the truck off and wait a few minutes the truck will not start. When I turn the motor over the tach drops to 0 and I have to floor it to get it to start. If I hold the throttle wide open the motor will almost start, when the motor cools down most of the way I can sometimes get it to start but it runs very rough and the mileage is much worse. If I wait till the motor cools all the way down it starts easy and runs great.

Better check your intake gasket bolts for tightness, and all your vacuum lines and connections. It's probably a vacuum leak.

it smoths out because you can't here the miss check fuel pressure and check for vachum leaks and build up on throttle plate.

A cold start sensor or cold start valve may be faulty or map sensor bring it to a advance auto parts store or auto zone if available to check for stored trouble codes, if any codes are present they will inform you in a detailed manner which sensor to change instead of guessing but if I was to guess the aforementioned would probably be the culprits.

Fuel injected or carb? Make sure fuel line itself is clear. Some pumps are designed to self regulate (carb systems) some continually pump and a psi regulator sends back the excess fuel back to the tank (fuel inj systems) If the line is obstructed then pump can't deliver fuel fulltime.
If you think pump is not on consistent, try running a dedicated wire through a switch directly to the pump. If it works then you are looking for an electrical fault going to pump. Good luck.

The air flow meter housung probably has mosture in side it!
You Jet washed it right?
so it's forced water inside... then it evaparates inside (VAPOR CAN'T GET OUT AGAIN) goes back to mosture when cool and plays about with air meter's electronics! OPEN THE LID AND DRY IT OUT WITH HAIR DRYER!
then re-seal it wirh silicione!
you see simple!
Do you remember years ago when old distibuter caps had a small hole (vent) in them yes? same thing! if your ign system got wet, whwnn the engine got hot the vaper could escape though the vent so the problem did not return understand?
That's you sorted sir!...Have a good one....regards..Bruce
