2004 KIA SORENTO LIFTER TAPPING

I JUST HAD THE TIMMING BELT ,CRANK SENSOR,AND WATER PUMP REPLACED AT THE SAME TIME. WHEN THE MECHANIC FIRED IT UP AFTERWARDS A LIFTER STARTED TAPPING AND THE OIL LIGHT CAME ON. HE THEN CHANGED THE OIL HOPING THAT IT MIGHT BE A BAD FILTER, BUT THAT DID'NT HELP. SOMEONE SUGGESTED THAT IT MIGHT BE THE OIL PUMP GOING BAD AS IT IS COMMON ON KIA'S.. WHY DOES IT AFFECT IT, AND WHERE IS THE OIL PUMP LOCATED. WHAT DRIVES THE OIL PUMP?

It is common for the oil pump to go bad after changing the timing belt.

the pump is located in the oil pan, and nothing drives it, it works as a sucking action....

I STILL have my problem...I have a 2006 kia sorento lx 4x4 with a mitsubishi 3.5 that I just replaced timing belt, water pump, idler pulley, tension pulley, tensioner, I also just replaced crank posit

because you have replace engines but I imagine that you have used the crank and cam position sensors on the 3.5 but connected up to the kia ECM there is a possibility that the ecm is not reading those position sensors and not providing timing for the ECM . It will be reading as broken timing belt. I would suggest a scan of the fault codes to determine if there any sensors not reading correctly. You may have to find a speed shop that has CPU programming capabilities to reprogram the ECM/CPU to the different sensors.

What size bolts hold the crankshaft pulley on a 2006 Kia Sorento?

I want you to go to this url, it's the official KIA forum dealing with older Sorentos.https://www.kia-forums.com/2003-2010-sorento-forum/53820-sorento-crank-bolt.html It's free to create a login.
It details the need to replace the crank pulley bolt with a new one supplied by KIA. This bolt, if reused, can break causing a catastrophic engine failure. Do not buy any other bolt., it's not worth trying to save a few pennies.I have a 2005 Sorento and had my local KIA dealer do this job and other work as long as the front cover is off, replace the water pump, the timing belt idlers and tensioner assembly. It's cheaper to d all that at one time than to go back and have to redo the cover removal. Hope this helps.

On a 2006 kia sorento , can you tell me how to locate the water pump. We think a leak may be coming from there. Does the timing belt have to come off to remove the pump?

not sure on model but most new cars if you jack up the car and remove the drivers side wheel right hand drive uk you should be able to get at it from there the timming cover may have to come off and some times the timming belt has to be loosend but as long as the timeing doesent get moved it should be ok to do its only if any thing on the engine part gets moved either the crank or the cam shaft parts move then the timeing will have to be done again hope this helps ivan

2004 KIA Optima LX timing belt/water pump

The thing is your doing the timing belt the water pump is right their with it . it should cost you much more at all besides the cost of the water pump. When doing a timing belt I have a rule that I go by The timing belt/seals =cam , crank , any pulley & tensioner & water pump all get replaced at the same time. I did a t-belt on a Audi A-8 very complex whole front of car has to come off as well, he didnt want to do w-pump & thermostat his thermostat was their as well not even a month later the water pump gave out he had to pay double the price because he didnt want to do it when I had it apart the first time. And make sure mechanic is ase certified . good luck
