My 1997 Cadilac Eldorado touring. the MASS air flow sensor (MAF) IS plugged up. the car starts up and cuts off immediately unplug it and idles high and then cuts off what could this be?

THE MAF IS NOT A TOY OPTION ON ANY EFI ENGINE.
YES MAF DOES GET DIRTY AND WE USE MAF CLEANER TO CLEAN THEM (SPRAY BY CRC MAKER) DO NOT LET THE SPRAY TIP BE LESS THAN SAY 10 "INCHES AWAY 250MM. OR THE HOT WIRE INSIDE(SENSOR) WILL BE WRECKED.

UNPLUGGING THE MAF FORCES THE PCM TO GO TO LIMPHOME MODE. + MAF SIMULATION MODE.
CRUDE:
A VARY BAD THING WITH HUGE FUEL CONSUMPTION AND BLACK TIPPED SPARK PLUGS
AND LOSS OF IDLE CONTROLS

LIMP HOME IS NOT FOR DAILY DRIVING EVER.
IT IS TO AVOID AN EMERGENCY ,SAY STUCK IN A SNOW BANK AND NEED MOVE TO SOMEWHERE SAFER. NO OTHER PURPOSE.
CLEAN THE MAF
OR BUY A NEW ONE
LIKE EVERYONE ELSE DOES LIKE THIS.
GEE IF YOU SCANNED THE Pcm AND IT TOLD YOU MAF IS DEAD, WE REPLACE IT IF CLEANING DOES NOT HELP IT.

HERE THEY ALL ARE FOR SALE

2001 Buick la sabre Code p0171 and p0102 I have replaced every thing but the Maf and erg

did you clear all codes after fitting everything the read for codes again

try cleaning the plug in contacts of the maf
and cleaning the maf itself
Mass Air Flow (MAF) Circuit Low Input
https://www.obd-codes.com/p0102

A code P0102 may mean that one or more of the following has
happened:
The MAF may be disconnected, or a wiring connection may be bad The MAF may be dirty or otherwise contaminated (Note: if you use a reusable oiled air filter, be careful not to apply too much oil or that can contaminate the MAF). The MAF sensor may be faulty The vehicle computer may be faulty (very rare)

if you replaced.02 sensor.it should not throw a pO171code

How do i clean maf sensor and throttle body

Autozone, carquest ect. sell MAF sensor cleaner. Do not touch the sensor because it will most likely break. Pull the throttle body off and spray it down with the MAF cleaner. Brake cleaner is supposed to work but cannot verify that in all vehicles and sometimes carb clean will work depending on the vehicle.

OBDii code reads 0170 which is a fuel trim malfunction right bank 1998 mercedes c230 where would the MAFsencor be and how do I fix

The MAF Sensor (Mass Air Flow) is located in the air induction system between the air filter and the throttle body.

Be certain to inspect very well for any air or vacuum leaks in the air induction system or for any loose hose clamps or fasteners in the air induction system, especially between the MAF Sensor and the throttle body. There can be no un-metered air entering the engine or the engine performance will be effected and the check engine light, or MIL (Malfunction Indicator Light) will come on, and P0170 is only one DTC (Data Trouble Code) that un-metered air can cause.

Also, be certain to check for any obstuctions on the air velocity grid to the MAF Sensor, or in the air flow to the MAF Sensor such as a plugged up air filter, or something sucked up into the air intake for the air cleaner assembly.

The MAF Sensor can be removed from the MAF housing and cleaned using carburetor cleaner in a spray can to clean off the fine dust that often builds up on the air velocity sensor part of the MAF Sensor and causes poor performance from the MAF Sensor. (it will require a tamper resistant torx bit, and note the position that the MAF Sensor is positioned in the MAF housing so that it is installed back into the MAF housing properly)

Then clean off the MAF Sensor with the carburetor spray. (From a spray can only, and do not submerge the MAF sensor in any type of water, cleaner, or solvent, or the MAF Sensor will be damaged)

If cleaning the MAF Sensor does not solve the problem, then replace the MAF Sensor and be sure to install it with the air velocity grid facing the air filter, and be sure to tighten all the hose clamps or fasteners well.

Here are a few links to MAF Sensors for that vehicle, and an image to help assist you.

My ford truck failed the smog test because bank 1 and 2 are to lean ( p0171 & p0174 )

possible solutions are, a dirty maf sensor. remove manifold air flow sensor and clean it with maf sensor cleaner. you can buy a can at any auto parts store to clean, take off and clean maf sensor, do not touch inside of sensor it is very fragil. when cleaning sensor be sure it is dry before installing it back on vehicle. also check for a vacuum hose leak downstream of maf sensor.make sure air filter is clean. this usually takes care of the problem. po171 and po174 are the same. you can use electrical cleaner to clean sensor also. also check for a dirty fuel filter and fuel pressure, if needbe.

How do I clean the MAF on my 2000 toyota corolla?

You first remove the wiring connector, and then remove the 2 screws that holds the MAF in place. Remove the MAF, and, with a flashlight, look down into the bottom of the sensor. You will see 2 small silver wires, and a little bulb. The MAF part is the 2 wires. The intake air temperature sensor is the samll 'bulb'. Look to see if the 2 wires are fuxxy, or otherwise dirty. If so: using a can of commonly obtained "brake cleaner" (find this product at any auto parts store), spray the interior of the MAF until the 2 silver wires are clean. Please do NOT use compressed air to clean the MAF, the air pressure can and will brake the wires, and that will render the MAF inoperative. After it is cleaned, let it air-dry, and then replace it and reconnect it. Drive the vehicle for a few miles for the computer to see the new values.
