You should have a hydrolic system that is operated with a clutch slave(on the side of the trans) it could be leaking fluid or a clutch master cylinder under the hood next to the firewall. Check the reservoir and see if it is full with brake fluid. If not look to see if the clutch slave or the clutch master cylinder is leaking. Replace and bleed the system just like you would your brakes.

Hydraulic clutch is not disengaging, when put into 1st gear the engine conks out. Replaced the master cylinder and bled the line - still conks out. Do I need too replace the slave cylinder or what?

as per your description problem not clutch since able to start in gear and drive without stall problem sounds more like a fuel delivery not the clutch

I put a slave cylinder in my 97 mazda but the clutch will still not disengage but it moves the fingers on the clutch

Clutch disk could be in backwards.
Slave cylinder may have an adjustment that needs to be extended.
Pilot bearing could be bad and keeps the pilot shaft spinning. (simulates clutch not disengaging)
Pivot pin of the throw out arm could be worn down.

Clutch would not disengage

IF you have bled the clutch system and managed to get a firm clutch then the clutch plate has been installed back to front and the clutch center is hitting the bolts that hold flywheel onto the crankshaft. If you have no not got a firm predal pressure replace the clutch master cyl

Intermittent clutch failure

Either there is low clutch fluid or air in the system. Or the clutch slave cylinder is leaking within itself.

No clutch but goes into gears with engine running

Did you just replace the clutch? If you have not there is a few things that will cause this, first thing is if its hydrolic clutch slave cyl. is stuck depressed holding clutch in disengaged position, secound thro out bearing is caught in fingers of pressure plate holding clutch in disengaged position, and third input shaft on trans. has broke off at spleens in clutch disc.

Fixing a clutch that suddenly stopped disengaging properly.

that is a hydraulic clutch and when they go out they dont always give warning. but it could be a leak in the line or just low on fluid and needs bled.
