I have a Toyota Hilux Surf Model 1996, when i drive for about 50 Kms the temperature rises and on checking the radiator i find not water yet there is absolutely no leakage any where. what could be responsible for the loss of water in the radiator. plz can some body help me
You could run your car without a thermostat, but it is not advisable to do so for long periods. This should just be a temporary fix.
The reason is that the engine is designed to run at a temperature designed by the manufacturer, usually around 80 - 90 degrees C. If you remove the thermostat, the engine will tend to run cold, and the cylinder furthest away from the radiator intake will eventually show more wear than the others. with the wear becoming sequencially less toward the front cylinder.
At first it will seem to make no difference, but eventually your engine will start smoking and using excessive oil until you have to overhaul it, boring out the cylinders and fitting new pistons. Rather find the real reason for the overheating and extend the life of your engine.
Blown head gasket.
A bad water pump could explain the overheating. However, it will not explain where the coolant is going unless you are seeing the coolant leaking from the water pump. If there are no EXTERNAL leaks, the ONLY reasonable explaination would be INTERNAL leaks. (blown head gasket, intake manifold gasket, cracked cylinder head, or broken engine block) Faulty water pumps do not cause internal leaks.
Check the sump. Is the water going into the sump oil ???

radiator could be blocked there is a drain tap on the bottom undo and flush out when cold or another problem could be in the top of the water pump there is a thermostat which sometimes rusts closed and restricts water flow intern creates over heating and high pressure which then makes the radiator build pressure and drop the water through the over flow hose you can run the car with no thermostat but it will run cold most of the time meaning no heater or very little heat

I have a 95 3.0l and mine does this when the fuel filter or injectors are blocked. I ran a bad batch of bio diesel and had the same thing about 6 times. As soon a you take your foot of the revs the light goes back out.

The behaviour of the engine does not suggest a blown gasket head, because i keep on loosing water in the radiator and when i fill it again, and leave the engine to idle the water does not splash out at all and yet there is not leakage any where and the thermostart was removed some time last year, some local mechanic was suggesting that the problem could be the water pump. can this be true?

we are geting some were, thank you very much for your time.
But just to be more clear, if the cylinder head, gasket head or engine block has blown or broken can the engine function well? this car has a 1kz 3.0litre engine with turbo. could the car start well with no abnormal Emissions like it does? kindly help me explain more
