Question about 2003 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

1 Answer

Reset battery light

The battery light came on, my last service check @ the dealership I was told the battery tested "weak". That was about a year and a half ago. I replaced the main battery with an original new MB battery, but the light is still on. Is there any way to reset the battery light or there is more diagnoses needs to be done. The car did not have any signs of battery issue before or after the replacement with the exception of the battery light. Thanks Max

SOURCE: Resetting Oil Service indicator lights on 1995 e300d mercedes

Hi Mike,
I'm in the U.K. and your Quarts are of a different measure to ours, I would say that is about the right amount, however careful topping up on level ground and monitoring the dip stick should get you there? anyhow where you bought the oil will have capacity details.
As for oil service light have you tried holding down the trip reset button whilst turning on ignition? Keep it pressed for about 10/15 seconds.
Good Luck!
Press the Blue button please if helped by my FREE Effort, Thank You!

There are a lot of issues with this error. Some people are finding that the ecm (main computer) needs to be replaced from corrosion. Others are finding that the ECM can be flashed to another year to fix it. Some are finding corrosion on the connectios. There is a lot of info about it on this page: http://www.sebringclub.net/board/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=11337

This is my problem: yesterday, I had to have the alternator and battery replaced in my 2008 Solara convertible. I purchased the car new in May 2009 & it has 40,000 miles. I had the work done at Mieneke...

Hey Lyn. Regular maintenance is a scheduled procedure recommended by the manufacturer. They don't check everything every time. If you would want them to do this and create a list of things checked , I am sure they might, but it will probably cost you more. People assume that because they take their cars to dealerships , that they get the best service available. This is not always true. If the battery and alternator are bad again, I would go back to mieneke and complain to them. they are nation wide and all of them should honor a warranty. What mieneke told you was probably opposite of what happened. The alternator was probably putting out to much of a charge and toasted the battery. Weak batteries wont kill an alternator. At least I have never seen or heard of it. As far as warranty issues, it is pretty much your responsibility to bring them up to the dealer. Again if there are specific things you want checked at maintenance time take a list and have them sign off on it. If they already have a list ask to see it and when there done ask for a copy. you pay for it, so they should give you one. I suggest that if you have an issue come up with repairs, to post on here and get some insight to what may be going on with your car. There are a lot of good mechanics on this site. Randy

Have a local repair shop come to your car with a scan
tool & take care of it

Never heard of anyone with 14 year old vehicle going to a dealer

That is a waste of money

Do you not have a local shop you have been using

It says to service battery charging system. The battery is showing good volts are 13.9-14.0 What does this mean???

if the caps are removeable from the battery, check and fill with distilled water

check battery terminal connections and clean corrosion from them

check drive belt to the alternator to see if it's stretched / worn

but you really go to get a charging system check and battery load test... free at my local autozone or advance auto parts

i'm guessing if those volts are just for the battery while the vehicle is NOT running, we can't really tell until the tests are performed.

the charging system / alternator / drive belt may be starting to get worn and/or the battery is not holding a charge (is it the original battery? cause anything over ~6 years and some batteries will go bad)

Had car checked again at dealership. They stated they checked the charging system and battery would not hold a charge. Found a bad cell in the battery. The alternator was working fine. Battery replaced. Car has been starting fine since battery replaced.
