When accelerating, the air conditioner output seems to correlate with the gas pedal, i.e. blowing more air while accelerating. However, on the highway, it will reach a point where this all of a sudden stops and acceleration power is seemingly ineffective. It feels like the turbo has lost power, perhaps there is some connection between turbo boost assisting the blower for the air conditioner and the wastegate is initiating and thus blowing the boost, which would explain the loss of power. I'm just not sure what it could be. Any ideas?

these cars are fitted with a fly by wire accelerator pedal that is controlled electronically by the cars computer it is possible that there is a computer problem or the throttle body ( air intake system )or accelerator pedal is playing up.
it is highly possible that the car is doing exactly what you say it is i recommend you take it back to VW and demand that they take a proper look at it you might have to leve it with them for a couple of days and get a service advisor to drive it home so as they can see the problem ocure.
regardles the cars computer should of thrown a code declaring a fault in the system witch should give the tecs some were to start looking.
good luck with this problem if you have any outher questions let me no

It's possible that the diverter valve (DV) has failed. The OEM valve has a plastic diaphragm inside and it can crack. If this happens, the car will leak boost air and will lose power as a result. Go to www.audiworld.com, click on Resources, then Tech, and then go to the engine article about replacing/upgrading the diverter valve - it'll show you where it is and how to do it.
