SOURCE: 2001 VOLKSWAGON GOLF 2.0 L ENGINE KEEPS

If you haven't replaced your water pump (composite impeller) to an aftermarket (metal impeller) then your heating problem lies in there. VW uses a plastic type impeller which cracks at the shaft connected to the pulley that drives it. When that happens, it might spin slower than engine speed or not at all. This will be a good time to do a timing belt service because it has to be removed out of the way in order to get to the water pump housing, so keep that in mind. Water pumps range from $69.95 - $89.95 from most VW internet shops that also offer free ground shipping.

SOURCE: VW Golf 2.0 is overheating after replacing thermostat.

there is a strong possibility that the impellers on the waterpump are broken!!!!. they are made out of plastic and are notorious for breaking. ck this first have seen it countless times. make sure new waterpump has metal impellers.

SOURCE: engine overheating

Replace the Temperature sensor that goes to the computer, this vehicle has two on it, one for hte computer and one for the guage on the dash. Also check for a temperature switch, if this vehicle has one, that could have gone out as well. The easiest thing to check and replace would be the fan relay. If none of these are the problem, the computer has gone bad

What do I do to fix the fans? The car is overheating?

if a bad temperature sensor the fan might not come on at all, even though the engine is overheating.check the fan relay and or fuses. if all is fine, run a wire from battery positive to positive connection on fan, to see if the fans work themselves. you may or may not need to ground the fans. Good-Day!

Overheating and fan not running

It seems as though you've proven that the fan is okay.. My guess is that the car's temperature runs well and normal as you're going down the highway at a good clip. The fan will be controlled by switches, relays and possibly the computer. You might have to go to the shop to figure out just what it is. Good luck..

The golf 1 fan switch had been replaced cause the fan takes too long to run. but still the fan takes too long. what can i do. the golf's model is older than 2000

Do you mean the engine is overheating before the fan comes on?Perhaps the coolant temperature sensor needs to be replaced.

2001 VW Golf engine is overheating

I would suspect the thermostat. Also check to see if the radiator fan is coming on.

Overheating Polo

this sounds like a thermostat fault, but also could be the sensor switch to the radiator but is more likely the thermostat, it should be located at the front top of engine, follow the top water hose to the engine and you will find the thermostat housing, also just a heads up, these had a problem when first made, according to the known fixes and problems with VW's the hoses corroded inside and started loosing water, this could be wise to get the system presure checked to...hope this helps

I have a 2003 Golf overheating

the system is the coolant temp sensor which reports to the ECM which operates a relay to turn on the fan
there are 2 fuses in the system
could be a fuse , sensor , relay or fan
easiest way is to get power directly to the fan first , then check the system fuses , then replace the relay leaving the sensor to the last

Overheating

Sounds like it could be an airlock - or a blockage in the radiator restricting the coolant flow.

With either problem, you might want to try a flush through and clean out. Use a good radiator flush and clean, its usually got a good degreaser built in, that way you will get rid of any oil based contaminants.
