Seatbelt warning light won't go off

A bad seat belt switch inside the buckle, try some tuner cleaner from best buy or radio shack

In the Ford Ranger, the light switch can be found in the door, right by the latch. You may need to use some WD-40 to get to work properly. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What does the owners manual say the light is for ?

It won't go off until you diagnose & resolve or
repair why it is on.

Hi Ann, Try going out to the car now and gently pulling it. If it has not released, take hold of the belt and try pushing it even further into the retracted position. That should unlock it. Regards John

Check your battery connections on the battery and the other ends where they go the ground will go to the engine block and the positive to a solenoid make sure all of this is tight and has no corrosion. This is just a loose wiring problem

Are you describing something like this? This symbol indicates that your vehicle has detected a problem with the airbag or seatbelt restraint system. It won't (or shouldn't) interfere with the way your vehicle operates, but it will likely disable the restraint system to prevent improper inflation of airbags. Obviously, the system won't operate properly in an accident, so you should get this checked as soon as possible.

Get in the car, make sure your dome light is set to door-operation.
Close all the doors, does the dome light go out?
If so, it's not the door ajar chime. If not, one of your door pin switches is defective.
Buckle your seatbelt, does the seatbelt warning light on the dash go out?
If so, it's not the seatbelt alarm. If not, it's the seatbelt buckle receiver.
The light warning works with the key off, so it is not that since turning the car off would not stop it.
Last thing it could be is the ignition key alarm.
I have seen a few malfunction over the years.

sensor in the seat belt bukle needs to be replaced

most likely if you look under the 2 front seats and inspect the wires that come from the belt you'll find a broken wire. just repair broken wire and you'll be back in business.
