After I had a lot of work done at a shop, the mechanics there told me that I needed to have my steering column replaced. I was a bit suspicious as I had never had any kind of problem with it before. Within half a mile of leaving that shop, everytime I made a turn, right or left, my horn would honk. I disconnected the horn but it has been about 4 years and I find I need my horn more and more. How would I go about changing out the steering column? Thanks

Hi , aparentlyyour mechanic just dont want to check nothing else, any new noise should be checked before major damage may happens, the first noise sounds like the new timing belt is rubbing the cover because they removed the alternator and air conditioner belts to install the timing belt ,may be that they did not re install everything right the way it was.......

It is rather complex but it can be done at home. It will also require special tools. The haynes manuals do cover this repair I believe.

sounds like there is something in the wrong place in the horn button. it makes contact when you turn left just as if you had pushed the horn button. i wonder does your airbag light ever come on, i mean not just in the startup sequence, that's normal. probably you need to take the horn button part of the steering wheel apart and get things back in the right place or maybe replace some parts, but because of the airbag being right there too it's not something i would recommend that you do yourself. accidentally setting off an airbag is not a good thing.
