How Is the Overhead Console Removed?

I need to replace the overhead console with a new one I purchased on Ebay. The replacement unit has 4 clips that look like they snap into place but it also has 2 small (1/2") plastic pins (inside the forward edge) that probably need to be inserted into an opening in the base fastened into the front ceiling. How can I remove the existing broken console? There are not exterior fastener connections. I attempted to pull it down from the ceiling base but the whole ceiling started coming with it.

How do I remove the rear climate control overhead to troubleshoot/replace?

You didn't state a year. But all overhead parts that I have pulled, just pop out. Held in with clips. On some older models you have to open doors and find the screws to take the whole console down. Screws out and it hinges down and out.

Can I replace the bracket that the overhead console mounts to without removing the headliner?

Remove the visor clips on both sides of the overhead console bracket. You can then pull down the headliner just enough to slide the bracket out over the rearview mirror.

How Is the Overhead Console Removed?

You are lucky that you have the replacement as a guide to show you how the original console is held in place. If you are handy, you can get a tool from an auto parts store that will help you loosen the retaining clips in the positions shown on the replacement item. You may need a helper to hold onto the in-place console while you carefully pry on the clips to get them loose. A small, clean rag put into place between the pry tool, your hands and the headliner will help keep things tidy.

Good luck

Changing the interior map light

The bulbs is replaced from the back of the overhead console with 1/4 turn bulb holders.

the overhead console ( non rail version ) is held up with spring clips.

Open the rear compartment, and grab the rear corners and pull down 1 at a time. They are very hard to pull the 1st few times. Once you have the read released, there is another set of spring clips in the front, so be careful how far down you pull the rear, until the front is released.

Once you can see the back of the overhead console, you will see the 1/4 turn bulb holders for the map and interior lights.

Replacing the front dome light

The front dome lamp & map lamps are replaced from the back, they are 1/4 turn bulb holders.

The overhead console ( non rail ) is held on with spring clips. Open the rear compartment, and in each corner grab the console with your thumb and index finger and pull down. The 1st time you remove it, it is very hard to pull down, the springs are very stiff.

The rail system, the service manual says to pull the overhead bins 1st, then pull the consoles out ( also spring clips )

My overhead console is coming off on my 2008 Nissan armada. Anyone know if this is a factory defect?

The overhead console on our 2008 Nissan Armada w/entertainment system is also coming off (at the back, where it's secured by clips and not by screws like the rest of the console). Dealer told me today that it cannot be repaired and that I must replace the entire console, including the DVD screen and rear controls. I'm raising the BS flag! We purchased the Security Plus Gold Preferred extended warranty (we have yet to find a component that we have needed replaced that has been covered, so beware. Surprisingly, it covers things like the oil dipstick, and we all know that those go bad all of the time). Going to have a chat with Nissan tomorrow. More to follow...

How do I remove the overhead console in my Ford 1-50 to change a light bulb. I ordered the bulb from the Ford house, but they want a small fortune to replace the bulb

With the overhead console ( non rail system ), open the sun glass bin, and grab each corner in the back, and pull down.

The overhead is held on with 4 or 6 spring clips, and pulls straight down.

The bulbs are 1/4 twist sockets installed from the back of the overhead console.

Looks like it is pretty easily removed.

Use a small screw driver and pry open the garage door opener storage bin. You will see 1 screw there that you will remove.
Pull the front of the overhead console down and remove the console from the console retaining clips.
