My Service Engine Soon light came on, I went to AutoZone and had their reader hooked up to my car and it said my engine coolant temperature is lower than the thermostat. What does that mean? It also said that my Bank 1 Sensor 2 oxygen sensor was bad. I replaced it. Are these 2 problems related? My car seems to be running fine now that i've changed the sensor, but the service engine soon light is still on.
This happens when the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) does not reach 75°C (167°F) despite sufficient engine warm-up time.
This happens usually when the thermostat/temperature sensor is faulty, and is bad for emissions and fuel consumption.
The
repair cost may vary, even if themperature sensor is not an expensive
part, after replacing the sensor there is need to reset the ECU (car
computer module).
You need a temp sensor
