SOURCE: My check engine light is on. The VCM says: PAO.

The PAO you see on your dash in the VCM (Vehicle Condition Monitor) *is really* -PAD-.

I had the same beacon on my 1991 XJ6, it refers to the brake pads being worn.

Fuse 3 is a notice that there is a misbehaving fuse in your 3rd fuse box, which is located inside the center console (armrest)

96 gmc k1500 speedo & tach stopped

car drives runs perfectly and transmission and headlamp?
does CEL glow key on? check engine lamp(it self tests then)
fuses first. F4 = gage fuse/ 6 fuses to make VCM run.
scan the PCM
check for 12vd top the cluster power pins.
the VCM sends speed data (serial ) to the cluster brain.
speed vss1 is digital sensor, on trans.
tach is pure VCM/PCM signal sent to cluster.
Id say F4 blow. if car drives ok, not told wow./

I have 96 blazer 4.3 vortec no spark from coil new coil an heat sink and module fitted + new leads complete distributor and crankshaft sensor fitted got power to coil but no out put.

not S10
dead hv coil means input to coil is dead.
on this car, 1996 we look at the distributor wiring ,et al. to know what's up with that.
and fuses tops the list all EFI AND spark fuses. and ecu.(VCM)
the VSM needs 5 good fuses !!! #4,5,9,10,12
then learn to scan the VCM on any 96 or newer USA car it has
the new the OBD2 scan port (16pin) just like now.
see DTC errors cranked, p03xx errors are all that.
CMP error , CKP errors end spark for sure.
crank sensor or cam senors, 3 wire HALL sensors and there and the best kind is HALL.
the VCM (ecu/pcm) fires the spark control modlen and it the HV coil.
if CMP and CKP are not dead.
crank for 10second (release not off) and release. if either 2 sensor fail now the
scan tool tells you so.. DTC p03xx code errors.
cam must spin, and not be timed by kids.(or hold my beer)
  • bad fuses (x5)
  • bad cmp/ckkp (dead cam timed all wrong)
  • bad spark control module
  • bad HV coil
  • bad wires to all this. page. of listed things.
  • bad VCM (if obd2 fails consider this, if no COMMS)
  • rusty or loose connectors
is CEL/MIL/SES lamp in cluster dead it must glow keyon.
or lamp dead, vcm dead or fuse to ecu x5 dead.

hint1,use modern scan too, not one from 1996 era
many the only did 1 or 3 uSA cars then, (lack of 3 ports is why)
all; modern tools work here, 2005 year up

P1415 code on 2000gmc savana. Where is it located abd how to fix it

DTC P1415 Secondary Air Injection (AIR) System Bank 1

Circuit Description
A secondary air injection (AIR) pump is used on this vehicle to lower tail pipe emissions on start-up. The vehicle control module (VCM) supplies a ground to the AIR pump relay, which energizes the AIR pump and the AIR solenoid.
Test one (passive) consists of the following:
When the AIR pump is enabled, the VCM monitors the HO2S voltage. If the HO2S voltages go below a threshold, the VCM interprets this as an indication that the AIR system is operational.
When the AIR Pump is disabled, the VCM monitors the HO2S voltages. The HO2S voltages should increase above a threshold and switch normally.
If the VCM did not sense more than a predetermined amount of HO2S rich switches, a malfunction will be reported. If both of these test indicate a pass, no further action is taken. If one of the above tests failed or is inconclusive, the diagnostic will proceed to test 2.
Test 2 (active) consists of the following:
During this test the VCM will activate the AIR pump during closed loop operation. When the AIR system is activated, the VCM will monitor the HO2S voltages and short term fuel trim values for both banks of the engine. If the AIR System is operating properly, the HO2S voltages should go low and the short term fuel trim should go high.
The VCM determines if the HO2S voltages return to above a rich threshold when the AIR pump is disabled. If the VCM determines that the HO2S voltages for BOTH banks did not respond as expected during the tests, DTC P0410 will set. If only one sensor responded, the VCM will set either DTC P1415 or P1416 to indicate on which bank the AIR system is inoperative.

Fault code p1406

Codes

Print
Stored fault codes may be erased from memory at any time by removing power from the VCM for at least 30 seconds. It may be necessary to clear stored codes during diagnosis to check for any recurrence during a test drive, but the stored codes must be written down when retrieved. The codes may still be required for subsequent troubleshooting. Whenever a repair is complete, the stored codes must be erased and the vehicle test driven to confirm correct operation and repair.

WARNING The ignition switch must be OFF any time power is disconnected or restored to the VCM. Severe damage may result if this precaution is not observed.
Depending on the electrical distribution of the particular vehicle, power to the VCM may be disconnected by removing the VCM fuse in the fusebox, disconnecting the in-line fuse holder near the positive battery terminal or disconnecting the VCM power lead at the battery terminal. Disconnecting the negative battery cable to clear codes is not recommended as this will also clear other memory data in the vehicle such as radio presets.
The following are the codes for the 1994-95 models with the OBD I and OBD II systems.

Will not start and checked fuel pump no power to fuel pump i also have blown fuse for ecmb that blows as soon as i replace it

ECM B fuse supplies a constant 12v hot at all times to the VCM/PCM and to the fuel pump relay. The fuse is blowing telling you that there is a short to ground somewhere. Try this, take the fuel pump relay out and put a new fuse in. If it doesn't blow put the relay back in and if it blows then try a new relay. The relay may be shorted to ground internaly. Other wise you'll have to trace the wires to the VCM and the pump relay to look for a chafed wire that's contacting metal. The wire coming from the ECM B fuse is orange and has a splice in it going to the pump relay and the VCM/PCM.
Hope this helps.....Andrew

VCM says Fuse 1 out on Jaguar Sovereign 1993 - Can't seem to find any electrical outages, what electrical components are using Fuse 1 ?

Fuse #1 is for the electrioc cooling fan at the radiator. May just be loose or need re-seating and/or cleaning of the contacts.
