Hi gj,

It's easy and you won't need a prybar.

  • Get a 14mm or 9/16" socket and a long handled ratchet or breaker bar.
  • For putting the belt on: Get the belt around all the pulleys except the A/C compressor or Alternator.
  • The tensioner pulley is on a spring loaded arm. Get your socket on the center nut of this pulley.
  • Slowly pull the ratchet toward the center of the engine. The pulley will pivot on the arm allowing you to get the belt on the final pulley.
  • Slowly release the tension.
  • You're done

Its a 2006 nissan sentra 1.8 i want to know when the squealing happens. I was told the pulley and the turpentine and a/c belts must be replaced.

They may very well need be replaced. Can't say for sure because I can't see it. Look at the belts for any cracks. Serpentine belts has a spring loaded tensioner. There may be a limit gauge on the tensioner that would show when the belt is stretched to its recommended limits. Pulley bearings can go bad and make noise. Plastic pulleys do wear out.

Changing the serpentine belt on an '02 nissan sentra

usually with a serpentine belt the trick is the tensioner. You need to be able to move it to release and replace the belt. the only other thing is the routing of the belt. several special tools are sold to move the tensioner. some are long bars with different types of attachments and some a ratcheting bars with the same attachments. Sometimes you can do it with a standard retchet but not always. Wish i could be of more help maybe you have a harbor freight in your area and they sell an inexpensive one you can use. good luck

  1. Remove the right hand cover under the engine.
  2. Turn the drive belt tensioner clockwise to relieve tension on the belt.
  3. Remove the fan and generator V belt.
  4. Return the tensioner to the unloaded position.

NOTE When retracting the tensioner, turn it clockwise slowly in 3 sec. or more. Be sure not to apply force rapidly. After the tensioner is retracted all the way, do not apply force any more than necessary.

1996 nissan sentra

Using a short socket of appropriate metric value, and a pry bar; Push the pry bar toward the firewall to loosen the tension on the belt. It's not that hard once you buck the initial spiral spring pressure of the tensionor. I have even pryed against the tensionor with a blunt heavy bar and moved it enough to free a belt.

How do I locate tension wheel to replace serpntne belts 04 sentra

The serpentine belt runs everyting under the hood...easiest way to locate the tension wheel is to look at every other wheel that the belt runs to.

Your tension wheel will be where the belt runs without being in a V channel, the tension wheel will be flat..no grooves to accomodate the belt.

Hope this helps
