I had checked the fuse for the gauges and it was good. But I haven't checked it again since the speedometer went completely out. If it were just the fuse wouldn't all the gauges not work though? Is Does this sound like a major problem? Do you think something has just became disconnected ?
Remove the dash clean the connectors and refit, sounds like its become un-seated on the connection, if you push on the dash and see if it comes to life again or parts come back then this is the fault, other fault can be the board on the back of the dash, damp etc can cause electrical problems, it may need drying, and you can re seal the board with nail varnish clear but you will need to re-solder all the connections back on first then use the varnish, the varnish should last years longer than the flaky stuff they use from new, just make sure its dry before plugging back in to the vehicle.

There is a recall on gauge clusters for this model contact your dealer. They replace if under 100k.

Yepppers...needs replaced..look at about $300 to 400 to replace plus labor. Mine cost 300 a couple years ago and 100 for labor. go to an auto electrical shop...The $300 was for a used cluster.

clean throttle body...make sure disconnect battery first
I had a similar problem with a 2001 Saturn. We checked every fuse and they were all fine. We finally did a 'reset' on the car's computer by disconnecting the battery and reconnecting it a few minutes later. Everything was back to normal after that.
