Hood latch broken on Lexus RX330

I believe it's the cable actually.....the inside release pops the hood up...but the lever that you pull underneath to completely raise the hood up is broken....it's just hanging there and therefore you can't pull that lever to release the hood all the way up...

It's not the cable if you can open the hood from inside. The mechanical safety latch is broken. If you can find one in a junkyard, get it, otherwise, it's off to the dealer to order it which will be more expensive than the junkyard version.

SOURCE: 1994 Lexus LS400 Broken Hood Cable - Hoe could I replace?

you have to route cable along the fender side under the hood like on battery side. you have to run it where it wont get in contact with drive belt.your cable has a ball of metal at the end of it.your hood latch should have a clip where you put your cable in it.you should not have to remove nothing.just drop cable in place.

SOURCE: I want to replace the hood support on a 2004 lexus RX330

To remove the support cylinder you nee a small flat head screw driver. The metal band at the top of the cylinder can be popped off. Slide the screwdriver up the channel slot to get under the metal band. It can be reused again. TIP: Becareful it does not shoot upwhen you lifter the hood to pull it off frm the ball. Good Luck

SOURCE: Can't find a manual lever

Some cars from these company's have security device on the gas doors. Some cars have to have both front doors unlocked before the gas door will open and some cars have a panel in the trunk with a rope or a lever behind them

I can't find the latch to pop open my hood on a 2004 mercury mountaineer. If it's above the parking break I think it's broken. How do I get the hood open since it's broken

If it is the one inside the car it will be in the driver's footwell. Open the driver's door and look at the side trim panel nearest the door. There will be a pull lever marked with a car with the hood open, (see picture). Try the lever. If it is slack it is most likely a broken cable. If it is tight it probably be the latch at the engine end.
If it is the lever itself that has broken, plastic so it can break, grab the 'T' bar end of the cable with a good set of grips (pliers) and pull it.
A broken cable is a lot more fun to deal with!!! You need to look to see if you can get to the release through the front grille. Trace the cable sleeve toward the centre of the hood. It should be connected to a lever. Using a big flat blade screwdriver, hook this lever and swing it left to right. Towards the side the release handle is inside the car. The hood should 'pop' up.
If in doubt get a GOOD mechanic to do it!

My car hood won't release to open

Greg, the spring in latch release is weak or broken probably or it is still seized and lubricant still has to be worked into it. You can probably get a replacement fairly cheap at auto recyclers.

Safety catch on hood wont release and hood wont re latch!

I would check to see if the hood release moves when the inside lever is pulled then pushed, if not the cable and latch mechanism may need lubrication or be broken.

Hood won t close

Check out the cable connection between the latch and your internal latch control. Till you locate the problem I would suggest tying down the hood with some sort of strap so it does not pop open at speed.

The hood on my 99 sunfire is closed shut and won't

The cable is probably broken and not connected to the latch. There are two latches, a primary which the cable is connected, and the secondary or safety.
You'll have to try to access the latch from under the car going up between the bumper and the radiator. You may need a body shop to do it.

Hello, I'm trying to open the hood of my 1991 nissan maxima. I have pulled on the lever to open, however the lever will not move. I do not want to pull it too hard without damaging it. Please help!!!

It is 20, and 10 years past its designed life, this stuff happens. You need to figure out whether the latch cable has broken or the latch itself is bad. If the cable is bad, you should be able to reach up under the dash, find the cable coming from the back of the lever and pull it out from the inside. If it comes freely, then you know it is broken but do NOT pull it all the way out. If however the cable is good but the latch is broken you are going to have to get at the latch via under the bumper or through the grille, and unbolt it or the male prong on the hood. Some extensions and swivels will come in handy for your socket set. When you get the latch or prong loose the hood will open

There is also a remote possibility that the spring which pops the hood up when you pull the lever has broken and the hood is actually unlatched so long as the lever is pulled. Check this by having someone pull and hold the lever from inside while you try to open the hood and release the secondary.

Hood release inside my 2000 ford focus popped to release but I can not open the hood of the car? what should I do?

Might just be stuck. Have someone pull the release as you FIRMLY pound on the front of the hood in the middle with your fist (NOT A HAMMER ! ! ! !).

If that works and it opens, get some WD40 and spray the latch and cable, lever, etc... and then work the release lever before closing it again. If the cable has broken....... it is very difficult to release without some automotive knowledge. I'm betting it is just stuck...

Good Luck.

Hood release cable isn't connected to interior hood release lever

Your going to have to use vice grips or pliers. Just pull hard till you hear the hood pop open or have a friend push down on the hood so you can pull in the hood cable easier to unlock the hood latch. Good luck and keep me posted.
