Why would the service airbag light turn on?

Yes it is the cause of the light coming on. Unless you have lots of auto mechanic experience don't attemp tthis repair yourself. Get the car to a dealer.

did you get this car new and if it is under warranty take it back
pushing the cover back on can pinch the bag and cause it not to work
this could cause the light to come on
have it checked and take great caution when putting cover on cause it can activate the airbag and cause damage to you

You can jut try taking the possitive off the battery for a second and then putting it back on if that trick doesnt work then youll probably need to take it to the garage to have them reset it

This can be caused by a bunch of different sensors that have gone bad. Anything from the rear-end sensor, to the steering sensor. I would recommend that if you have any type of warranty you take the car in to get it checked out. Most of the time there is not code on this issue. It is a issue that Cadillac has been dealing with for a few years now.

check ther wiring connections under the front seats clean them with a soft lead pencil ,if that doesnt work then remove the dash ,cut the feed to the bulb and connect the feed to the oil light bulb so when engine starts the light goes out so it passes the inspection every year
