2005 GMC Sierra blower wont turn off

When I turned off my truck. The a/c/heater blower keeps running. The climate control is turned off also. I have to disconnect the battery or take out the fuse. It just started yesterday. It is very cold outside and snowing hard here in Cleveland. But this is the first time this ever happened.

2004 tahoe, have similar/same issue. Climate control system. blower not working, when i get to work, it doesn't shut off. found several GM TSB's on this. Voltage is good to control module, including speed control, fan runs ok on 12v direct. everything says it is the control module. remove the plastic cover on passenger side(only loosen screw behind console, remove other 2 ). module is right there. 2 screws, and 2 plugs. easier to take blower out to get to plug. tab in back holds it up-depress tab, 1/8 turn drops blower.

GM has a service bulletin for this symptom. They say that in cold tempetures the blower control module fails also known as a linear control module. This only applies to vehicles with automatic temperture control.

  • Anonymous Nov 22, 2008

Any GM dealer could check for you, Its not a recall and there wasn't much in the bulletin other than saying in cold weather this may happen. It said with the new one the blower speeds may seem stronger than before. I think that this part is the same as the blower resistor on older vehicles. It is probably located in the bottom of the blower housing inside the cab on the passenger side. I think it has a 3 wire plug.

2005 gmc sierra blower wont turn on

Check the fuse first thing. If the fuse it good then either the blower motor speed control switch, blower motor resistor pack, or the blower motor itself is bad. Normally the speed control switch rarely goes bad. If some of the speeds did not work prior to total failure then the resistor pack is bad. If that is not the case then apply 12 volts directly to the blower motor to see if it is good. If it runs suspect the resistor pack as the culprit.
