Code 89 I have a jeep and the check engine light is on. When it is put on the scanner is it registering a code 89 and refer to owners manual. There is nothing in the manual. Can you help !!

    USED A GENYSIS SCANNER AND FOUND A CODE 89. SAYS "DESCRIPTION NOT AVAILABLE" KEEPS THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON. WILL SPURATICALLY GO OFF THEN COME BACK ON WITHIN AN HOUR

    I cannot find this code anywhere. 1998 Jeeps use OBD II and code 89 is not a code from that standard. They start with they start with P0XXX. XXX would be the number. Are you sure the vehicle year or code is right?

My eco lights are not on and my engine light is on my 2010 jeep grand cherokee 3.7 liter
When the check engine light is on eco (economy) is disabled. You now need to have the OBD2 fault codes read, this is done at the diagnostic port under the dash on drivers side with a OBD2 scanner or code reader. Also Autozone parts stores will do the test for free.

each coil and injector have a reference wire that sends a code to the computer if num 1 misfire is coded it registers it and then whenit goes on its 2 time around and it still has the same reference it lights up the check engine light to erase it you need scanner if not able unplug battery if comes back you have to check plugs, coils, wires, or just the connectios at the ignition harness in the engine

I have a 2006 pt cruiser. I just bought pre owned and the check engine light was on. Got the code p0882. Dealer fix it and change the alternator too. On my way home after picking up my car it ran good....
Check applicable trouble codes. Some of the national brand auto stores will check p0 codes for free. I'm not sure of engine liter size?
I looked at your owners manual, 91 octane recommended, but not required. 87 octane is ok.
Sometimes after filling up, the fumes in the gas tank are stirred up, You may have to check evap system?

Ok so out of no where the check engine light came on along with the compass is no longer working. Is there a connection?
If everything else is running fine, I'd go ahead and disconnect the negative lead in the battery for 15~30 min. It'll reset the computer and turn the check engine light out Then just watch and listen to everything for awhile. If the light stays out I'd stop worrying about it. However if it comes back on you'd probably better go somewhere and have them put a code scanner on the thing and see what error is registering. The compass probably just needs to be re-calibrated. Check the owner manual for direction.
