Abs light brake light on not shifting

I was recently driving in cruise control at about 70 mph on the highway. All the sudden my abs light and brake light lit up on the dash. The truck then began to start slowing down and accelerating over and over. The speedometer then starting fluctuating tremendously. Now just driving through town at around 35 mph the truck will not change gears then all the sudden will jump into gear. Both the abs light and brake light are on. The speedometer is also still going crazy. Im just an electrician but have very little experience w cars. Mainly I am wondering if this is a bad sensor or something more extreme. Im pretty mechanically inclined and am hopeful this maybe something I can fix on my own. I went to autozone and they told me they dont have the equipment to get abs codes? Thank you for any input!

Look under the truck at the ****** and check the wiring to the sensors if good may be a bad sensor, also check the wiring and connections to the abs wheel sensors [ located from frame to the hub behind the rotors ] the abs also acts as speed sensor if problem was with an abs sensor at the[ hub] wheel usually set the brake system to normal power brakes [if u hit brakes hard will lock up or skid wheels] with the abs light coming on if the speed sensor at ****** malfunction can and usually causes shift problems

SOURCE: Sudden brake failure

You need to check the fluid in the master cylinder first. if it is empty you have a leak somewhere. if full then probably a bad master cylinder.brakes just being worn will not cause you to lose all pedal. while if they are worn should be replaced if they say you just need a brake job then be suspicous

Have you by chance checked your fluid? If not, you may want to do that, it could show that you need brakes if it is low. If that doesn't do it, the mechanic may be right about a sensor, but just the wrong one. Hope that helps.

What does the MIL code "PO 320" mean, please?

code p0320 refers to cam shaft position (CKP) sensor/engine speed (RPM) sensor--circuit malfunction=== causes --wiring--CKP/RPM sensor ---ECM
because the engine runs ok until it is on cruise control I would be investigating the RPM sensor for a fault
The cruise control takes its control from the RPM sensor and if that circuit is interminable the the cruise control doesn't know what rpms to maintain.

Automatic, V-6, ideal RPM at 70 MPH?

Sounds like the transmission is not shifting into a higher gear. 2,500 to 3,000 rpm would be more realistic for a highway cruising speed. The higher rpm may not be a big deal as far as the engine is concerned but it will hit you pocket book pretty good when you loose the mpg that you should get. I would personally either limit your driving until it can be checked or at least slow down so that the RPMs are in the range listed above. Let me know what they find, my curiosity is peaked!

Battery and brake warning lights flash simaltaneously, but intermittently. What does this indicate?

Sounds like a short on a abs or emergency brake sensor since that would cause the brake light to be triggered also cause a sudden drop in voltage which would trigger the battery light could also be a bad ground at the battery

I have a 99 saab 95 and a couple of days ago when i was driving on the highway my cruise control was on and for about 10 and then the abs light came and my mph meter stop working and ever since then i...

it sounds like you need a OBDII test. try autozone. it is possible that the brake switch is faulty that would cause the cruise control to turn off, if it is getting a signal that the brake is being depressed. You may even have multiple sensors failing right now. Start with the OBDII test and that will tell if there is faulty sensors or switches. Then if you want, post more info on fixya again, (fault codes and such) and we can help you further.

While driving home from work my ABS light illumintaed then my 4X4 high light began flashing. What do you think the problem might be?

For some year models of Explorers involved in the Cruise Control recall, there were additional wiring problems caused by the modification of the Cruise Control. These problems included yours and Brake lights working independent of the brakes. Contact a dealer about this SECOND service bulletin.

The above problems are more likely if the 4x4 is showing a light and the vehicle is in 2 wheel drive. The ABS indicator light is usually to be trusted without the Cruise problem. It would not hurt to check the brake pad linings, sometimes the lining shifts and drops down off the metal of the pads. Finally if the ABS light is still showing a problem that you can not find, check the Emergency brake pads inside the rear rotors.

Speedometer reading fluctuates

IMHO, I think that the broken cable is what is causing the problems. It "confuses" the programing of the CPU or computer.
