How to replace block heater 2001 ford windstar

Just purchased 2001 Ford Windstar. I noticed this morning coolant leaking. I am very mechanically inclined. When I looked underneath, where the block heater cord plugs into the engine block(round part about 1 1/2 inch) there is a small hole where it is leaking from. how do I replace it? Thanks

SOURCE: Ford Windstar oil leak

Most possible oil leaks from valve cover rubber oil seal. Remove valve cover, inspect , clean surfaces, and replace with new rubber oil seal .
Good luck!
Thanks for using fixya.

SOURCE: Ford windstar OBD II code P1537/38, P0171 and P0420

It could all be related.P1537/38 are the intake manifold runner controls are stuck open. They are controlled by vacuum solenoids. The P0171 is bank one of the engine is running lean, usually caused by a vacuum leak, P0420 is catalytic converter efficiency code. The computer monitors the switch rate of the front 02 sensors and compares it to the switch rate of the rear 02 sensors to tell if catalytic converter is doing its job. Now if the front 02 is not switching properly then this will cause this test to fail and set this code.
Look on bottom section of the intake manifold at the back of engine(where tranny bolts up) you should see the vacuum motors there on the intake, these are the control motors for the intake manifold runners.Make sure the vacuum lines are hooked up and lines are not leaking. Also you will see a lever from it to intake make sure they move and are not binding.

Why my 2001 ford windstar smells like burning coolant

Is there any coolant leaking onto the exhaust pipes ?

My 1999 ford windstar is only blowing cold air and no heat

possable problems:

1. coolant leak (level too low to fill heater core)
2. headgasket leak forcing the coolant out of the overflow.
3. stuck thermostat.
4. bad water pump. if the impelers are broken, coolant wont flow.
5. HVAC malfunction. system may think you selected cold or is unable to move diverter. maybe a fuse, solenoid or vaccum leak? (hvac controler uses vaccume controled soleniods)
6. airlock. if you have resently changed your coolant, you may need to repeatedly squeeze the heater core hose to help force out the air.

My 2001 Ford Windstar van seems to be using alot of coolant daily

Possible coolant leak on hot engine parts causing it to evaporate as it leaks. That would definitely invade the cabin air. You would need to carefully check under the hood with the engine warmed up and running.

Also could be a headgasket failure between coolant channels and a combustion chamber. This latter problem sometimes shows itself as vapor at the tailpipe after there should be no more visible. You may also detect the odor of coolant there too.

No heat in 99 ford windstar

Check the coolant level. If it's low, what you describe will happen. There is not sufficient coolant to flow through the heater core at idle. At 60mph the water pump is spinning quickly, managing to get some coolant through the heater core, so you get heat until the rpm's drop at idle. If it is due to low level, keep an eye on it to see if it drops again, as you may have a leak.

Have a coolant leak

Just did that on a Grand Am , it was pressed in , but not a permanent thing. it had an O ring on the end , and some RTV sealant. After removing a retaining nut on a small flange I just wiggled and pry'd a bit and it came out. Not sure if your ford is the same.
