If you are getting spark and fuel, the plugs are fouled, or the fuel pressure is wrong. You need to check the fuel pressure. If there is too much pressure, it will not start. If there is not enough, it will try to start but will not run.If you are getting spark and fuel, the plugs are fouled, or the fuel pressure is wrong. You need to check the fuel pressure. All in the link, but this is it. Also good to use a bottle of Fuel System Cleaner
I wanted to post this on here because a Ford technician was nice enough to give me this information. Here is what needs to be done to load all the parameters in your computer so your vehicle will pass inspection after your check engine light problem has been fixed. This will work for all explorers 1996 and up. Here is what you do. This will save you from having to drive 3 or 4 hundred miles to load the computer.....
1. The gas has to be between 1/4 and 3/4 full. Not above or below.
2. Start the vehicle and put it in drive and hold the brake.
3. Turn on the air conditioner and the rear defroster.
4. Sit in drive for 2 minutes.
5. Turn off AC and rear defroster.
6. Drive the vehicle up to 55 mph.
7. Decelerate down to 20 MPH, do not touch the gas or the brake.
8. You must do this 3 times and let the vehicle get cold between cycles.
I did this today and my vehicle passed inspection. I hope this helps others that need to get their rigs inspected and don't want to drive around for a couple hundred miles.....
Check for spark to the sparkplug. Try a shot of starting fluid as having gas pumping and having the fuel injectors opening are 2 different things. If you have spark, then the fuel injectors may not be working. Quick diagnosis is to use starting fluid and see if engine tries to run. This indicates problem is not lack of spark but lack of fuel getting into cylinders.
Most Fords have a fuel reset button. When you ran out of gas you tripped the circuit. Most of the time the button will be on the passenger side by the kick panel. The exact location should be in your owners manual or your local library or auto parts store will have a copy of one for your specific vehicle.
Check for vacuum leak at intake manifold or bad fuel pump relay or have fuel pressure checked to see if fuel pump is working properly 40-45 psi it should be pumping
this car does not have a carburetor it is fuel injected.it could be the fuel pump.if you listen by the fuel tank and try to start the car you should hear the fuel pump run.if not you can try to hit the fuel tank in the center of the tank while trying to start it.if it starts then the fuel pump needs replacing.it could also be bad gas after sitting for 3 years which will not ignite.the fuel injectors could be plugged up from the gas being bad.have you check to see if the plugs are getting spark.is the air intake unrestricted(nothing building a nest in the air intake tract.
seperate the fuel line at the fuel injecter, turn the engine over if fuel comes out , more than likely it is not the pump, if you get no fuel, change the filter, try again, if no fuel most fuel pumps today are in the tank, drop tank change pump
First thing would be to replace the fuel filter. Then spark plugs. You may have a weak fuel pump. A faulty fuel pressure regulator could also cause this.
if it's fuel injected, look on the fuel rail for a schrader valve--looks just like a valve stem on a tire but shorter.remove cap, again just like on a tire.turn key to on-push valve stem in as if to let air out if you get air, then gasoline, you have just bled the system.replace cap, start car.if you get no gas, remove gas tank cap, turn on key, listen for ""hum'' of fuel tank.no hum, check fuel pump.modern[plastic] fuel pumps will self destruct if run dry, even for a short time.
i am getting a good spark.
how do you check the fuel pressure?
getting spark and fuel spayed ether in it and still won't start
