I have a 2002 VW GTI and the radio wont turn on at all. All the display says is ''CHECK''. I took the fuses out and checked them, they are all good. The problem isnt the fuses. What could be causing this problem?
This worked for me (radio in 2003 VW Golf):
Radio says "CHECK" but is otherwise unresponsive. Turning car or radio on/off doesn't help.
On the far right of the radio, there's a round TUNER button. Press it for 5 seconds. Your screen will then show some digits, but the unit is still unresponsive.
Press tuner button again for 5 seconds. Radio should now be 100% again. Let me know if this works for you.
There is an in-line fuse on the back of factory radios.
Pushing the tuner button twice for 5 seconds worked for me, but I turned the radio on first so "CHECK" was displayed - pressed tuner knob for 5 seconds until 4 digits were displayed - turned the radio off, turned the radio back on so "CHECK" was displayed - pressed tuner knob for 5 seconds... until the radio started working.
I have the same problem what i do is i DONT start the car....1. i first what for the red like on the radio to flash then i turn it on...2. the radio will turn on but when you start the car the radio might turn off...3. but then i drive it a distance turn the car off wait for the red light to flash and then i turn on the radio and then start the car but you may have to do this everytime you drive the car it a pain in the a** but its better than listening to nonething....so try it
I hace the same problem but I think found the solution
1. First put the key in your car
2. Tuner on the radio
3. The message "check" press tuner knob 5 seg
4.the radio show 4 numbers, this number its number for activate the radio when you radio need activate,
5.press up arrow, (this is for seek stations)
6. Press again tuner knob .. and ready
This is the same procedure for active you radio when that battery its bad or the fuse its broken
I hope work for everybody .... thanks

My radio says CHECK most of the time on my 2002 vw jetta. Occasionally the radio will come on but it is very rare. I have pulled the number 42 fuse out and that hasn't worked. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
My 2002 VW Passat's radio says CHECK and won't come on. This started after - on a very cold day last week - it made a clicking sound and appeared to be getting no power. Then on Monday this week, without me doing anything, it seemed to have power and was able to eject the CD and cassette inside it, but displays CHECK and won't make any sounds. Any idea how to fix this?
same thing CHECK????
2003 Volkswagen Jetta Radio says "CHECK" and does not work. It occassioanly comes on for a few minutes but then dies again. Thanks
