Very common problem with GM vehicles. It's usually caused by a bad wheel speed sensor. Get the trouble codes read so you know which wheel is causing the problem. Then do the diagnostic. Getting the trouble code is ALWAYS the first step.

Replace the TPS (Throttle Position Sensor). $30 to $40 if you do it yourself or $70 to $95 if you have a service station do it. This will fix all of your problems related to the TRAC OFF light and transmission shifting into low gear.

Was sent in by another poster, just posting his results which fixed mine. Problem was relay $50.00 at GM only.
Check the relay module. 45 or 46. on the engine relay block. you can
swap the two they are the same part number, then you will know. Dont
start the engine, just check the lights. If it works replace the relay
module. You may have to order the part from the parts store. Or go to
the dealer to get it.

Based on your info, start with changing the fluid (completely) & filter. That's a long time to go without a change & if it is acting up, you're not going to hurt it by changing fluid.
Now some mech's will tell you that new fluid can cause it to quit working if it hasn't been changed in too long. I have changed countless filters & fluid, have changed automatic trans clutches myself & the O rings, and cant verify that as the truth, I suspect it's more than likely coincidence, after all, most of them changed the fluid & filter to try & fix a problem if you get what I mean.
Of course the least expensive route will be the flush & fill, you really need a good complete change though including torque converter drained & hopefully you'll find the filter restricted & the new one will help. If you do it yourself, clean the pan well & note what is actually wearing by looking at the particles left in the pan. Should be some gray gunk but not too much, which is a combination of small metal particles & contaminants from clutch wear.
I'm not betting on it fixing your problem, just in your corner hoping it does & saves you trans repair.
Good Luck
