It cranks over and over but will not start

security light on no crank no start ????? Hook up a professional scanner an see if all the modules on the vehicle communicate . Check for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble code's .

Does it have spark at the spark plug's ,fuel pressure , compression . Do you know how to test for these ?

I'm unsure of the make??..

but I've had similar experience, the distributor hold down clamp came loose , distributor turned just a bit, went unnoticed until I switched engine off and tried to start following day...

try squirting some starting fliud in it and strt it

does it crank now, you mean it wont crank or
cranks robustly but will not start
or cranks and runs for 3 seconds.
is the IMMO light off, it has its own lamp, mine is sold read, no words, no icons, just red. if on, it WILL NEVER RUN.

Do you have a Wankel engine in you car?
Then you have a flooded engine.
Pull the fuel pump fuse or relay and crank the engine over......until it starts then stops.
Now put relay or fuse back and start.
You cannot start and stop a Wankel in a Mazda RX when it is in it's cold mode and restart it easily.
Always run them for at least 10 min before shutting it off.
The other way to start after flooding.....is wait a day.

Try a crank sensor. Next time it stops pour or spray water on it and see if it will start. If it does you will know what you need.

It probably ran the alternator too and without it the battery ran down so the engine went dead without any power.
