remove fluid from power steering res and disconnect the return hose jack front of vehicle up high enough to get behind engine to firewall the powersteering unit is located there place jack stands under vehicle for safety then get under vehicle to remove hose from powersteering unit, observe routing of hose to replace new hose
After the car has been driven until warm, say 10 minutes, leave it running and feel the hoses going thru the firewall to the heater, there are 2 ,if they are both cold it needs a thermostat. If one is hot and one is alot colder , it's the heater core. If they are both hot it's a door on the inside. Thermostat on the 2.3 (assuming) is at the engine end of the top radiator hose, front of the head. Easy one
No the cooling system would not have any affect on the battery. If the engine is not warming up, the thermostat is in the water outlet where the upper radiator hose connects to the intake.
If there is no sign of coolant loss (air pocket in heater core),then check for plugged heater core. Both hoses should be very close to same temp with engine at operating temperature with heater fan on high setting. If the return hose is alot colder, then coolant flow is restricted.
The radiator maybe semi clogged, sometimes sludge gathers down the end tanks and blocks off a percentage of your radiator which in turn struggles to keep the coolant at the required temp. Even if you take the radiator out and stick a hose in it it still looks like its not clogged the water just run off the sludge and still looks clean when it comes out, the sludge kind of goes like a semi hard clay feeling substance. Its worth getting it checked out as if you heat it up enough you may end up warping the head slightley and/or damaging the head gasket.Radiator places take the end tanks off and clean out the core with long tin rods that will clear the build-up. I hope this helps.
To the first person:
I would need more details such as: are both heater core hoses warm or just one? Does it have a thermostat jammed in the open position? Does the temperature gauge show that the engine is at the correct temperature?
To the second person:
You might be low on antifreeze, or your thermostat could be the wrong temperature (example: 195* is normal, and 160* is too low.
