Lc prado overheat cause?

Have you had problems with the vehicle not starting at times as well?.......if so and it is a GMC product then from my experience it was the key-switch harness cable $50 will buy you on on ebay...or pay $200 at GM.....mine did the same thing and also would not change gears...started driving in 2nd or 3rd gear.....as this is the cause as well....good luck....everything was fixed with mine..1..gauges not working 2 pressing hard on the key switch to start and when it did could only drive in 2nd or 3rd gear......

change engine thermostart, check the turbo unit ,
. viscos and belt tension

well 82000 miles is not a bad thing make sure it has always had a routine inspections and regular
oil changes brakes ect. i have a jeep grand wagoneer with 156000 miles on it im the 3rd owner
and it runs great its not always the miles. its how good they took care of it

When was last trans fluid & filter change? Should be done every 30k or 3 years. I'd start there.

What is happening to you is worn out sincronizers in you transmission. They are used to mesh the gears between shifts. They are made of brass and wear out easily on the 2nd gen cars. It grinds normally going into 2nd gear and into 3rd if its really worn. If you want a stronger transmission buy the 93 and up 3rd gen tranny. It is an upgraded transmission with dual sincros. Yours does need rebuilt. Or you can find one on the MR2 board for a good price used. I prchased a 93 trans for $1000. An older one will be about 200. Also it depends if its turbo, lsd or not. Sounds like the transmission has reached the end of service life. I have a 93 that did the same thing. It would drive until the transmission heated up then nothing, except for reverse. I had a TRW rebuild transmission installed and now my 93 Legacy has 500,000 miles. $2,200 to repair vs $25,000 to replace. The only thing you would miss is the new car smell for a few weeks. But you can keep $20,000 plus.

I had this problem with my 2004 turbo, I took it to my dealers and they said they it would need a whole new PCM unit as the disk drive was also faulty, happily they replaced it under warranty and didnt charge me a thing.

well first off i would just remove the belt that drives the turbo and get the proper belt for the motor without the turbo for now and look into aftermaket turbos

check the piping from the compressor outlet to the throttlebody for boost leaks. also check to make sure that the wastegate actuator is functioning properly. it may be stuck open. the other thing to check for would be an exhaust leak either between the head and the exhaust manifold or the exhaust manifold and the turbo.
if its none of those things, check the blades on the turbo (compessor and turbine sides) for damage and make sure that it turns freely
