It is possible it is bad. It is also very possible that the fluid is too low to work correctly. If the fluid level is right, Id say the tranny is no good.

Usually in most cases when a transmission wont go in reverse, is not good. I would try to have the transmission fluid and filter replaced. That might fix it and save you a few hundred dollars. If it does not help, then you are going to ned to take your car and have the transmission fixed.
No reverse is the most classic symptom of a failed transmission. You must have the transmission rebuilt or replaced with a Motorcraft re-manufactured unit (my choice)
its impossible to lose that much fluid with out a leak. the was so low that it has burned your clutches out. would have to rebuild or replace entire transmission
your Transmission is controlled by a cable on the mustang. it could have Came off of the transmission. it just snaps on to a lever on the transmission. or the cable broke. other wise it came unhooked from your shifter.
This could be a linkage problem. I am not familiar with this transmission, does the shifter go directly into the top of the tranny? If not make sure the linkage is not hanging up somewhere. I'll help if I can. Thanks..................DB.
