2002 turbo beetle cranks but doesn't stay running?

My 2002 turbo s beetle starts up but then it stalls out and completely goes off if i press on the gas or not. either way it will still die, it will not stay running. when i hold the key in the ignition to try to test it, it smells of gas fumes. the check engine light is on as well. but apparently not reading a code when trying to find what sensor. what could the problem be? or how to fix it?

SOURCE: 2002 Turbo VW Beetle

start by putting trans in nutral (with e brake on) than turn the key just short of turning on the ing press the brake andyou will need to grabe the shifter with the right hand and the key with the left hand now turn key just enough to move shifter slightly out of nutral right between nutral and drive it might a couple of trys but you will get it.

2002 Malibu stalls while driving, doesn't over heat. But can start smelling gas fumes before it stalls. usually wait about 5 mins then restarts. in higher elevation runs fine but in lower elevatio

It sounds like the catalytic converter could possibly be almost completely plugged up not allowing the exhaust to leave the engine like it should. It just builds up in the cylinder head and when it gets too much in it built up and there's no where to go, it'll stall the engine. By letting it sit for a few minutes, it gives the exhaust time to find a way out and the car will restart.

My 2002 VW Beetle turbo deisel was driving down the road and just stopped, someone told me it could be a ECU problem. What and Where is the ECU?

COULD BE WATER IN FUEL.DRAIN WATER FROM FUEL FILTER BY THE DRAIN PLUG UNDER FUEL FILTER REPLACE FUEL FILTER.IF ENGINE STILL STALL OUT PROBLEM COULD BE THE FUEL INJECTION PUMP.THAT WOULD BE A DEALERSHIP FIX.

Loud noise folled by loss of power

In order to run a turbo you have to have low compression in your cylinders. when you drive to aggressively you can blow you turbo out and you car will have no power at all. A turbo pushes air into you intake in order to get that power. if it goes out your engine will run like its 30 years old and blown. get a new turbo. take care and good luck.

Car stalls and battery light comes on.

Have the alternator tested. Repair or replace if bad.

My 2002 VW Beetle (not turbo) after charging battery won't run

Hopefully you are using the same ignition key you had before to start the car. This flip module mhas a chip that tells the system you have the proper key. If for some unknown reason the system lost this program it is probably a dealer only problem. The chip is inside the fob right near the key itself.

2002 VW Beetle non Turbo automatic

Idle compensation is not correct due to one or more of the following; Bad/clogged air filter, vacuum leak, EGR valve, PCV valve, head gasket leaking, bad gas, water in fuel, fouled plugs, 02 sensors need replaced, locked torque converter, etc. These have not been listed in order of expense; just as they come to mind...accordianman
