SOURCE: 1994 Toyota Corolla - Valve COver Gasket Replacement

You need an aftermarket serviice manual from Haynes or Chilton. They will have that kind of info.
I know of no car (I don't know them all) where that is needed and depending on the cover material (sheet steel or cast), could lead to warping and new leaks. I always use a thin film of silicone whether it is specified or not and there are torque specs for ALL valve covers I have ever seen.

SOURCE: Replaciing serpentine belt on 2006 Toyota Corolla

You'll have to remove the engine cover under the bottom so you can position the new belt on the pulleys properly. Get a wrench or tensioner tool and turn the tensioner clockwise to relax the drive belt. Don't apply excessive force.

It's hard to draw a picture with words, but looking at the engine from the passenger side of the car, there are basically two top pulleys, two middle, and two bottom. The drive belt goes around the outside of the two top and two bottom, and on the inside of the two middle.

Blew the timing belt, is it fixable? would it have hurt the valves?

The 1.6 liter and 1.8 liter - 4 cylinder engines in a 1994 Toyota Corolla are :

non - interference engines ( according to the Gates website , they make timing belts

etc. )

Read more: http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Interference_or_non-interference_1994_toyota_corolla#ixzz18sCsYgeh

Non -Interference means your valves would not have hit the pistons so no damage should have been done to your engine.

Is the 1994 Corolla water pump driven by the timing belt? It not, another belt? The local garage wants $400 to replace this $45 part, which seems excessive. I've done this type of work, but not the...

What engine and submodel? When I looked over the 1.8L engine version for two submodels, the timing belt was not drives the water pump.

However, it is probably a good idea to change the timing belt every 80,000 mi or 100,000 mi.
