Awhile ago my mechanic told me that my front right axle boot was leaking grease. Well, today it began to make noise. Grinding squealing. What needs to be replaced? CV joint, CV axle or entire drive axle?
On this type of vehichle, you have two axles in the front; one going to each side. Chances are that the boot at the axle joint was torn and that is why you are having problem. In teh past people used to replace the boot, this day and age its actually cheaper to replace the axle. So you would need to replace that side of the axle (the half shaft).
Well this means that your cv-joint boot has been cut or split and has let dirt in and greas out,if it is clicking,or sound like your rolling a jar of marbles you will need to have it repaired or get a rebuilt cv shaft.but yes you can just have the cv-joint repaired
