2005 HONDA CIVIC 1.7 CYLINDER HEAD TORQUE SPEC.

CYLINDER HEAD TORQUE SPEC

  • Steven L.
    Steven L. Jul 12, 2018

Just in case anyone sees this in the future, the correct torque spec is as WalleyRacing said.

    Three steps tightening procedure:
    14ft/lbs
    36ft/lbs
    49ft/lbs

I personally have never heard of only retightening the middle two bolts, but it definitely makes sense.

I'd also oil just under each head bolt head as well as the threads.

Please for the love of all things good, DO NOT do as others suggested and torque to 52ft/lbs or 73ft/lbs!!!!

The d17 series motor has an aluminum cylinder head and you can and will strip the threads by torquing that much!

If you look at the sources cited by the posters, one is for a v6 Accord and one is a 95 Civic and still isn't right for even that.

Also, any library will have online access to repair manuals. Great reference materials and a free source!

wow. a lot of bad information on this site. Refer to a manual for the proper torque sequence. The civic I believe is a two step torque procedure. First 22 ft lbs, than 53 ft lbs.

SOURCE: hi what is the head torque on a 2002 honda civic

Dont forget to apply clean engine oil to the threads of each bolt for proper torquing. Then finger tighten. Then

    1. Tighten the cylinder head bolts to their final torque specification in 4 steps. Use a crisscross sequence starting with the bolts at the middle of the head and working toward the outer bolts as follows: Step 1: Tighten each bolt to 14 ft. lbs. (20 Nm).Step 2: Tighten each bolt to 36 ft. lbs. (49 Nm).Step 3: Tighten each bolt to 49 ft. lbs. (67 Nm).Step 4: Retighten only the 2 center bolts to 49 ft. lbs. (67 Nm).
    1. Step 1: Tighten each bolt to 14 ft. lbs. (20 Nm).
    2. Step 2: Tighten each bolt to 36 ft. lbs. (49 Nm).
    3. Step 3: Tighten each bolt to 49 ft. lbs. (67 Nm).
    4. Step 4: Retighten only the 2 center bolts to 49 ft. lbs. (67 Nm).
