As specified above it is inside the door attached to the "Door Module". You have to take off the plastic panel with trim facing the inside first. Then you see the door module. You have to remove the outer door handle, the latch screws, the window saddle clamp screws (and tape the window closed, remove the module screws and carefully maneuver it all out. The latch unit comes out with the door module. It is truly not meant to be a serviceable part. It is closed with steel pins with the head flattened that would have to be ground/cut off to get in to it.

Considering the possibility of damage I would have a replacement on on hand before I tried to just repair it.

I know all this because I just went through taking it off only to realize it is not easily serviceable and am ordering the latch module now.

These switches are inside the doors attached to the door latch assembles.If you know some one with a scan tool you can go into the body computer and see which one is showing open when all the doors are closed. The most likly one is the drivers side door or the two in the rear gate. I've replaced those the most.If you don't want to replace them you can unplug them and the lights will go off. Probably a door switch, check them first. Go to each door with a can of penatrating oil, find the switch in the jam, give it a shot and work the button manually until they're all freed up. Watch the light while you do this to eliminate which one's causing the problem. Please post your results.

sounds like thats your problem,the drivers door is the one that goes bad the most,switch is located in door latch.youll have to remove door panel,and maybe latch,call a ford dealer and ask if you could buy just the switch or do you have to replace latch asm.

The door switch provides a ground to the dome light... so there is no danger to you if you want to attempt a removal of the switch. A rusted or shorted wire in the door switch (of any door) will keep the dome light on.

Interior Lighting The interior lighting is broken down into two groups: the courtesy lamps and the illuminated entry lamps. Both lighting features interact with the courtesy light arbitrator. The battery saver is also listed in this section.

  • rear left door ajar switch

2013 Ford Edge door ajar warning light and message will not go off even when the door is shut and car is in drive.
Very common Ford problem. The issue is a stuck door switch plunger located at the bottom of the door latch (usually the driver's door because it's used the most.) Some people have had luck spraying WD-40 down into the latch and then opening and closing the door many times to free up the switch. If that doesn't work, you'll have to remove the door trim panel and replace the switch.

Door ajar
Hi,

Often, intermittent "Door Ajar" warning is indicative of a faulty switch. The switch is normally embedded into the body and is triggered by the door pushing on a rubber cover. They are normally located at the rear edge of the door opening. A 1997 Ford Explorer would have a switch similar to the image below.

It is highly probable that the switch has some corrosion causing it to engage every now and then. Another probability is that the rubber cover has come loose causing vehicle vibration to engage the switch.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.
