Thumping noise when apply brakes 1990 Accord

I have a 1990 Honda Accord. When I apply the brakes, I hear a thump-thump-thump noise. As the car slows down, the thumping slows down. The noise seems to be coming from the front of the car. I checked the front disc brakes, and the pads and discs look fine. Could the thumping be related to weak CV joints or some other suspension problem?

Abucanear, I believe you are right that it is the CV axle because I eliminated all the other possible causes of that noise. Is it difficult to replace the cv axles?

Yes my cv axles had to be replace cause of the same thing but when you replace one side you need to do the other side at the same time cause when 1 goes bad the other is not that far behind . i know from experience

2008 honda accord - when pressing or depressing brakes there is a thumping/popping noise

my guess you are moving, i dont know.....
bad brakes, do not drive such a car.
one reason for this is cracked rotors.
or might be bad CVs. CVs can be stressed more with braking,

Hi and welcome to Fixya!

As a first course of action I strongly suggest that you take it in to any reputable mechanic and perform a valve clearance check. The clearance may be too far that's why it creates a noise. If that's the case then have a valve clearance adjustment.

You may want to replace the MAF (mass air flow) sensor too. If the MAF is faulty an erratic idle may occur and engine may stall. The MAF is located on the throttle body.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

Take your car to a mechanic or your local auto parts superstore and have them read/scan the codes for the reason for the check engine light. A good place to start.

I replaced the pads on my 2005 Honda Accord. I had

ABS only senses if the wheel is spinning or not.
"Thumping sound" sounds like a bad problem. I've not had thumping sound from my front brakes ever.
I don't know how a caliper could cause thumping.
Is everything installed correctly and do the brakes stop the car??

Strange noise in the in the front of my Honda accord 2005. It happens when I accelerate and take curve.

could be ball joint, wheel bearing, brakes anything splash-guard ? is it a grinding noise or a thumping noise or a squealing noise or thumping and any of the above together along with it or just a single one listed above this will better my thoughts what it may be //

however if you can raise the vehicle and support it for safety reasons ....try to move the tire from side to side and back and forth top and bottom to see how much play is present ,if nothing proceed and remove the tires and look for anything obvious 1st ..and use a drop light flashlight to better view everything that stands before you and as well hands on and see if anything appears loose or broken ...for starters

2005 honda accord noise when breaking (transaxle)

You say you hear the noise when you "slow down". Does this mean you hear the thumping noise when you let off the gas and let the car coast to a stop or only when you are applying the brakes to decellerate?
If you only hear the noise while applying the brakes then I would assume it has something to do with your brakes. The first thing that comes to mind would be rotors that aren't true or warped which could make a thumping sound.

Do you feel any vibrations in your foot when it is applying pressure to the brake pedal? If you do feel a sort of pulsating feeling then it could very well be your brakes making the noise.

I hope I was of some assistance,
