My 1999 Chev. Monte Carlo make's a kinda 'scratchy' noise when I turn the steering wheel. Someone said that it is probably my air bag, and a couple of other's said it was probably a bearing in the steering colum. The horn on my steering wheel is kinda taking on a sorta 'deformed' shape, like something is trying to get out, which make'z me believe it is the air bag. What do you think? How do I fix or find instruction's on fixing the air bag? I would really appreciate your expert opnion as soon as possible so that it dosn't just POP Out one day and SMASH me in the face. Thanx !!!!!! Sixx:AMa

It is pretty easy, there is not much labor involved if it has anti-lock brakes in the rear you will also have to un-plug the wire harness attached to hubs.

put your foot on the brake before you try to take it out of park. if it is a console shifter there may be something you lift up or move with your finger before you can take it out of park

Usually a lit airbag can be attributed to faulty wiring, crash sensor behind the front bumper, bad connection between the airbag and lower part of the steering column, or a faulty airbag module. I've also heard of clockspring wiring harness problems. An airbag "on" light means that your airbag system is INACTIVE. Be careful. Check for a safety recall. You must have the battery disconnected for at least 15 minutes for a reset and double check your battery. I know it seems simple, but a poor battery will trip a code. 15 minutes allows the SDM (Sensing Diagnostic Module or Airbag computer) to discharge the backup power for airbag. Do this especially if you're poking around the controls. It sounds like a bad connection which is not allowing communication between all parts of the system. Also check the fuse (can't hurt).

its your M.A.F thats the air flow sincer i had that problem also but as soon as i got a new 1 it stopped and ran fine. the part cost about 160 bucks at auto zone and is easy to take off and put on yourself cuz the shop charge about 300 bucks to do a 3 min job but im sure that is the problem with your car

if this car has the 3800 or 3.8 ltr its on the passenger side towards the fire wall, the fill sits low in the back ,behind the engine, you might need a transmission funnel so you dont spill the p/s fluid all over the back of the engine, hope this helps
